Personally i think it is always unreasonable to contemplate violence when a well placed remark will do the job better.

Yanbu to have fantasies about slapping them later.
Just keep it at the fantasy level.
Real violence would not have improved anything.
The world is full of Morons, sadly!

Can you shout shhhhhh?

Are you sure they weren't just being jokey with you?

I think you did the right thing by confronting them. So many people say the most rude things because they rely on this silly thing we have about not 'making a scene'. So they say what they like, safe in the knowledge that most people will just take it rather than stand up for themselves.

I say make the scene! grin

What did they do when you yelled at them?

EllaDee Sun 16-Oct-11 09:54:21

Were they pissed?! That sounds so bizarre, I wouldn't take it seriously.

Northernlurker Sun 16-Oct-11 09:55:10

Best not to slap people - they will call the police and 'they were mean to my baby' is not a great defence. You were right to call them rude though - what did they say/do after that? Tossers.

YouHaveToCallMeNighthawk Sun 16-Oct-11 10:06:03

YANBU! I would've gone barrelling into them before you could say, 'I expect a better class of citizen in John Lewis!'

Grumpla Sun 16-Oct-11 10:07:51

Well done for telling them off! Twats.

Why would you attempt to slap them though, when a well-timed pram-barge to the groin is both satisfying and very deniable? wink

My thoughts exactly. It sounds like a script from a Pantomime confused

You are being very unreasonable.
You should have shouted WILLY WILLY WILLY!
Not very well played at all.

Proudnreallyveryscary Sun 16-Oct-11 10:20:35

hmm

And indeed hmm

Salmotrutta Sun 16-Oct-11 10:20:47

How odd. Why was your DH mortified?

It does sound a bit pantomime-esque what with the reference to camp voices and Kenneth Williams.
I think your response was fine - best not to slap people.

Actually, for some very strange reason, this reminds me a wee bit of the poster a while back who thought some workmen had made a rude gesture at her and she shouted "Willy, willy willy!" at them. Her DH was mortified too.

Salmotrutta Sun 16-Oct-11 10:21:38

Hahahaha - X-Post with Bimbo! grin

BimboNo5 Sun 16-Oct-11 10:21:52

Do you know what always make me chuckle in these kind of situations- the DH's (Dads) are always stood looking mortified/lost. I need to hear of a situation where a Dad 'sticks up for their child' or I am inclined to think all the Dad's/husbands/partners on MN are meek and mild lettuces.

Salmotrutta Sun 16-Oct-11 10:26:25

Oh my DH would have got stuck in!
He has whacked cars with squash rackets etc. when they have driven too fast into leisure centre car parks as kids are being picked up blush
This was many years ago I hasten to add.

Lol at the sterotypes!

HandMini Sun 16-Oct-11 10:57:18

Seriously??? I think I would have laughed, they sound so totally absurd. Definitely would have been asking the first one what the F he was doing sticking his head into my baby's buggy.

picnicbasketcase Sun 16-Oct-11 11:00:59

I must've missed that thread, 'Willy willy willy'?? grin

YANBU OP, that protective red mist, 'how dare you say anything about my child' feeling is a powerful thing. At least you didn't really hit them, but they did deserve a telling off.

good one smile
