i am in the process of losing weight at the mo(over two stones so far ) so am taking more excercise .i was cycling to work this morning and someone said that people like me should not be allowed on a bike aibu to be pissed off by this comment as i am doing something positive with my life

Ignore/delete from memory.

I've always hated the attitude that 'fat people shouldn't be allowed in gyms'... I mean where's the logic?!

Keep going, prove to yourself how good it is, fuck everyone else, or run them over...

I salute you. The 'diet' (though it doesn't feel like it) is going brilliantly with me, the exercise is something I need to work on, so well done you for getting out there... don't let arseholes put you off!!

worraliberty Fri 14-Oct-11 21:36:51

It depends on what they meant by 'people like you'?

Were you riding dangerously?

Trills Fri 14-Oct-11 21:36:57

"People like you should not be allowed on a bike"

Sounds like the sort of thing someone would say if you had pulled out of a junction without looking or cut them up, not a comment on your weight.

Are you sure you hadn't just done something silly or dangerous?

aldiwhore Fri 14-Oct-11 21:38:57

Actually I've had two gym bunnies giggling and sayin within earshot that I'm not a very good advertisment for a gym when I've been sweating on the treadmill (gah, hate that shit) so I believe it when someone says its weight related....

I had to lose this 2 stone JUST to pluck up the courage to return to sportswear!!

Harecare Fri 14-Oct-11 21:39:40

What Trills and worraliberty said. I ride a bike a lot and on a route to work I kept getting drivers shouting at me that I was a psychopath! How rude. Then I realised they were shouting cycle path!!!!
Did you get your cycling proficiency??? Do you know the highway code??? Swot up immediately!

i was trying you be polite and not say that i heard "fat twat" i was on a marked cyclye path which he was walking on

Trills Fri 14-Oct-11 21:46:34

Trying to be polite to who? Us? It's more polite to give us all the information, rather than adding things on later when we don't immediately agree with you.

Yes but "fat twat" could have been them insulting you as a result of cutting them up or riding dangerously.

Not that it makes it ok, but still it's different to just idly shouting out of the blue?

Harecare Fri 14-Oct-11 22:03:52

"Ignorant twat", "you're on my cycle path twatface" would be a good reply - unless you're going to do the same journey a lot at the same time of day.
YANBU to be pissed off, but it's a waste of energy. In a matter of months you will be fit, trim and toned, he will still be an ignorant twat walking on a cyclepath.

TastyMuffins Fri 14-Oct-11 22:08:11

YANBU the twat on the cycle path was though! Hope you have a bell that you can ring annoyingly to make idiots like this jump out of the way if they walk on the cycle path. If they don't get out of your way shouting 'my brakes don't work!' is a good one. Don't try to run into them because it hurts a cyclist more than a pedestrian. Good on you for getting on your bike! Keep it up.

devonshiredumpling Fri 14-Oct-11 22:10:06

i am pleased at my progress so far as my BMI was 43 now it is 38

ivykaty44 Fri 14-Oct-11 22:11:26

I thought this chap was real insperation

ivykaty44 Fri 14-Oct-11 22:12:12

DevonDumpling - well done

TadlowDogIncident Fri 14-Oct-11 22:14:54

YANBU and he is an idiot. Don't get a bell, get an AirZound horn - next idiot you encounter on the cycle path will jump out of his skin!

MrsWifty Fri 14-Oct-11 22:35:19

Yanbu, but ywbu to let it stop you. When I first started cycling to work, I was about the same BMI, and I dreaded cycling past the bus stop my colleagues were waiting at - but they cheered me on! Random roadhogs on the other hand will shout whatever insult first comes to mind - and sadly for us, something fat related is often top of the list. As the pounds drop off (and believe me, if you stick at it, they'll fly off) you can look forward to more random insults - I've been called a harpy, crank and even lesbian (?!) simply for daring to be on the road.

MrsWifty Fri 14-Oct-11 22:38:55

Sorry, meant also to add a huge well done for the weight loss so far! And please don't be put off by the cycling rage - the belly laughs you get from the more wtf insults help burn more calories :D

devonshiredumpling Fri 14-Oct-11 22:40:45

tadlow where would i get such a horn

JohnnyRod Fri 14-Oct-11 22:45:22

dumpling people can be arseholes, keep at it. You could go for a paraphrase of the classic with "I might be a fat bastard but after I lose weight you'll still be a c***".

JohnnyRod Fri 14-Oct-11 22:46:05

PS you're not a fat bastard but you get the picture. I hit Post already.

devonshiredumpling Fri 14-Oct-11 22:48:04

pmsl johnny thanx for all your comments people much appreciated has made me more determined to keep at it BUT THE NEXT TIME I SEE THE TWAT !!!!!!

aldiwhore Fri 14-Oct-11 22:52:22
