To not send my DS to his club?

DS aged 13 goes to a sports club on Friday night. It's also the night that exH is supposed to pick him up every other week for his weekend. ExH hasn't picked him up on a Friday night for a long time and I mean probably only once in the last 18 months meaning that he either picks him up Sat AM (often 2 hours or so late) or doesn't bother at all, he currently hasn't seen him (or phoned him) for 6 weeks.

DP and I have decided that if ExH does pick DS up this weekend that we will stay away in a hotel for the night and although I won't believe it til it happens, it will be lovely.

Having spoken with ExH he has offered to pick DS up from school tomorrow, which would be great, really lovely for DS who has only once had his Dad pick him up from school in the last 9 years , but a. he might change his mind have last minute work commitments and b. he also won't take DS to his sports club. When I asked if he would take him I got told that he would rather pick DS up on Saturday morning. Hmm

DS didn't go to sports club last Friday as I went to a wedding and couldn't get him a lift and now I feel guilty if he doesn't go this week too. He could go to an alternative club on Monday but I have agreed for a family friend to come round for dinner now.

DS won't really mind if he misses the club but I don't like giving the message that it's not really important.

Don't worry about it. In the whole scheme of things it isnt really that important is it? Unless your DS is a budding athlete it's just life especially as it falls on a Friday.

How far away is the Sports Club? Is there no public transport?

No public transport. We live about 20 mins drive away. We are very rural and this is in another village. ExH lives in a neighbouring county and works all over the place.

I suppose I had thought it was not unreasonable that exh pick up DS from school, take him out for tea and then take him to sports club and watch. DS would love his Dad to watch (I always stay and watch due to distance to drive home and back again) and then go off to Exh house at 7.30 meaning they would be home by 8.45pm.
