Lyrics from over 20 years ago?

Was cleaning the kitchen after tea when one of my old favourite songs came on. Cue me using a mixing spoon as a microphone. I knew EVERY word, including the 'geetarr'. DD (5yo) wandered in to me rocking round the kitchen, rolled her eyes and left, DH is questioning my sanity.

but I wish I could remember useful shit.

And what song was it?

peggotty Wed 12-Oct-11 21:04:08

YANBU at all. I think I know the lyrics to every Erasure song in existence blush. It's definitely lyrics from a certain era I remember - sign of an adolescence spent with headphones clamped permanently to my head. I know a lot of Smiths lyrics off by heart as well ....

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:04:27

ScaredBear Same here, I think my brain just absorbs song lyrics!

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:05:48

MurderBloodstabsandgore Poison, Nothin but a Good Time blush

NorksAreMessy Wed 12-Oct-11 21:05:48

And I used to get 'smash hits' and learn all the, frankly awful, lyrics

A decade or so ago, some boy band or other had covered a song I remembered from my own teens (70's). DS2 was very impressed that I knew all the words - till I confessed. grin

YANBU to use a mixing spoon as a microphone

YADBU to not sing at DD and DH and force encourage them to do backing vocals or at least some dancing

MurderBloodstabsandgore Wed 12-Oct-11 21:10:26

have just had rendition off DH, so YANBU confirmed grin

however he mumbled a lot and naah naah naahed but he did do guitar bits smile

I too would be an evil genius if my brain remembered normal stuff rather than lyrics, adverts and jingles...

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:12:29

I did try and involve DH and DD, they weren't interested. MurderBloodstabsandgore Your DH is awesome just for remembering that track!

SuePurblybilt Wed 12-Oct-11 21:14:07

I have one of those brains that retain lyrics above all else grin. I remember everything: advert songs, chants and songs from pre-school and every song since it seems.

I cannot remember anything useful ever. It is only a useful skill if you are prepared to go on game shows with Shane Richie and I Am Not.

Panzee Wed 12-Oct-11 21:15:24

I knew what song you were talking about when you said "geetar" blush grin

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:16:07

Sue I am the same, plus I do useless facts and trivia, and I will not do game shows!

SjuperWereWolef Wed 12-Oct-11 21:16:27

yanbu at all i remember word for word lyrics from my teens - blue, westshoite, atomic kitten, hearsay blush and strangely 2 linkin park songs hmm and thanks to my mum, almost every 80s song in existence all they have to do is come on the radio and bang theres the lyrics in my head spouting out my mouth.. grin

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:16:41

Panzee tee hee!

Georgimama Wed 12-Oct-11 21:17:28

I heard "Need a Little Time" by the Beautiful South on the radio the other day for the first time in at least 15 years and knew every single word.

SuePurblybilt Wed 12-Oct-11 21:17:30

Tis a sign of great genius and beauty Sjoops and Ginger <nods>

GingerWrath Wed 12-Oct-11 21:19:01

I know that Beautiful South song (even though I am a dyed in the wool rocker blush

SjuperWereWolef Wed 12-Oct-11 21:19:59

Georgimama Wed 12-Oct-11 21:20:55

No the Beautiful South was never a particular thing of mine, I just know all the words. I have no idea why.

schroeder Wed 12-Oct-11 21:21:34

Sheriff Fatman is still in my brain grin

Georgimama Wed 12-Oct-11 21:22:06
