AIBU?

To kick off at DH about this disgusting thing he does?

I cook, he washes up.

We've got one of those food-catcher thingies in the plughole of the sink. Since DH doesn't scrape all of the debris off the plates before plunging them into the sink, there is always a lot of food floating in the water (that in itself is a vomitty thing) then he pulls the food catcher plug thing out just enough to let the water out but so that all the food debris catches in it (suppose that's what it's for)

Then he just waltzes out of the kitchen and leaves all of the food (bits of soggy onion/pepper/pasta/rice/whatever) lurking in the sink. It makes me feel really, really queasy. Yeah, I know I'm pathetic.

I just had a bit of a benny about it. I ask him every night of he can get rid of the food mulch and he never bloody does it. Please don't say that I should be grateful that he's washing-up in the first place. He's doing half a job. I don't agree to cook dinner, then assemble a half-cooked dinner on his plate.

My OH does the same sort of things. Everything done in half measures and never a full job done.

Then calls me a whinger.

Useless. All of them.

You are soooooooooooooo gonna get flamed Grin

I agree with you btw. Mind you I am so Monica Geller about a thousand things I get to the point where I think it is easier to do things myself rather than risk a member of the family Fucking It Up.

I have to wash the dishes in boiling hot running water. So I would have brained your DH years ago for washing ip in a pool of water with food flotsam floating round.

Leave the bastard. Now.

YANBU

I cannot touch that stuff in the plug hole catcher without feeling like I am going to lose my guts. I always scrape plates well so I don't have to, or DH does it. Blood, poo, vomit etc all fine, but not food mulch

That's the thing: I'm not Monica Gellar about anything! My standards are pretty low actually. Grin

It's just to soggy food in the sink that makes me cry. :(

Maybe you should cook him half a meal. Then tell him you'll do 'your' job properly when he does 'his' Grin

My dd really likes baked beans, but I hardly ever buy them because if I get one molecule of cold bean juice on my hand from a dirty plate the whole world will cave in

I could handle cock on the hand towel. Wink

I might do it, Chaotic. I might.

OMG this is one of my major bugbears. I can't wash up in the sink because of it. We have a dishwasher (luckily), but back when we didn't, I had to train DP out of the habit of leaving food floating.

Just the idea of it is making me want to heave.

why don't you save it and serve it up for dinner.
then say "oh, i thought you were saving it because you wanted it... otherwise you'd have thrown it away right?"

My DH does this. I don't think he does it deliberately, he is just physically incapable of actually seeing the yukky food remnants in the sink. He does the same thing with anything left on the stairs - even if he has to actually climb over the pile of washing he doesn't notice it's there. Doesn't matter how many times I point this out; it doesn't get any better.

It's a man thing

YANBU. It's surprising how much a small thing like this can bother someone though.

We discussed things like this at work once and a now ex-colleague once asked me out because he had heard me say that I cannot stand it when the plughole in the bath gets blocked with hair and since I had long hair I was a bit obsessive at making sure it was clear. Apparently he used to argue about this with his (also long haired) ex and thought that my dislike of it was a good sign we would get on Confused

Bupcakes, I could have written your post.

I do all the cooking too and often wash up too, but when dh does, he does the same; bits in the "food catcher" overnight and then dried on the next morning, so a nightmare to get them off.

Drives me mad too.

Seems completely mad to me that someone can do a load of dishes and not spend a few seconds chucking some foodbits in the bin...

I think he's really doing 99% of the job, which makes it even more odd that he doesn't just finish it.

YANBU, soggy food in the sink makes me feel queasy. Really 'orrible.

DH used to put dishes/pans full of used cooking oil into the washing up, coating everything with grease so it had to be scrubbed with vim. It drove me round the fucking bend and down the drain.

I made a sign "don't put oil in the washing up" and blue tacked it to the cupboard. It works occasionally.

Sometimes I wish I cared about stuff like this. I know I probably should care but I just don't.

Anyway - you should leave him. That goes without saying.

PenguinArmy · 10/10/2011 20:39

washing up = washing the sink afterwards

DH also doesn't get that washing the sides, also means the cooker and changing the bin means cleaning it if you find it dirty. and also struggles with the definition of clean

He also peels potatoes and carrots into the washing up bowl (usually half full of water) and then leaves it to me Hmm
