to think that people who are thinking of joining a long-established internet forum (say 10 years +) would be well advised to get a feel for the place

before jumping in and criticising the conventions of the forum hither and thither and then threatening to flounce in a massive hissy fit?

smackapacca Fri 07-Oct-11 19:13:18

nah - let em criticise, flounce and then leave.

FabbyChic Fri 07-Oct-11 19:13:35

Let them flounce I say, it gives me something to chuckle at.

scottishmummy Fri 07-Oct-11 19:14:31

YANBU, although it does amuse me when someone puts their first post in AIBU then throws a massive hissy fit when it turns out that yes, they are.

scottishmummy Fri 07-Oct-11 19:18:33

oh im sure a few oldies are hissy fit princesses too

No, let them come on in and have a bitch at me before they flounce off. Just so I can play this and chuckle to myslef

As a newbie - gosh, sorry - can I just point out the slight illogic? This is a forum for Mums. New Mums get created every day. And therefore new Mums will collectively reshape this forum as suits them.

tbh it DOES feel a little cliquey. And histrionic. And blimey I hope when the twins are born I have as much time to post as some of you do - or are you managing simultaneous typing/feeding? If so, 'spect!

Or am I missing something? Did someone post something suspect?

IHaveYourToaster Fri 07-Oct-11 19:24:27

You are missing the fact there are LOADS of forums for mums. This is just one. If you don't like it go somewhere else. There's plenty of choice.

scottishmummy Fri 07-Oct-11 19:26:06

and youre missing point its discussion not brown nose forum

I can simultaneously type, feed children, drink wine and teach spellings/times tables.

Funnily enough I never got a feel for the place before diving straight in. I'd never even used any type of forum before.

cory Fri 07-Oct-11 19:29:05

hells1908 you are also missing the fact that not all Mumsnetters are new mums.

I would be hard put to it to spend as much time on my 14yo as you will be doing on your newborn twins, simply she needs a break from time to time to do her own thing, go out with her friends, revise her GCSEs, listen to music, read a novel etc. She doesn't require feeding more than a couple of times a day- in fact, she can bring me cups of coffee should I need to keep my strenght up whilst Mumsnetting wink

But I will of course accept any respect you can send my way <bows gracefully>

Grumpla Fri 07-Oct-11 19:29:45

hells1908 If you haven't already got an iPhone I recommend the app smile Not sure if you can do the one-handed typing / feeding / wrangling with twins though...

Anyway, I fucking love Mumsnet in all its sweary shouty glory, those that don't can flounce off to the far side of flounce.

scottishmummy Fri 07-Oct-11 19:30:24

feel for place.thats laughable, like dock cap to ole timers.

Whatmeworry Fri 07-Oct-11 19:30:51

A few months ago I suspected it was journalists starting the New Poster Controversial Threads, but some of the ones this week make me think its just sh*t stirrers - dunno how many are mums and how many are just attracted to MN as it grows.

ChippingIn Fri 07-Oct-11 19:31:44

Nah - it's fun when they flounce!! Big Jessies smile

Feminine Fri 07-Oct-11 19:32:11

I agree with hells surely MN should evolve with new posters ...till then,

is there just one collective style that we are all working toward then?

Genuinely wondering ...

scottishmummy Fri 07-Oct-11 19:32:28

all of us were new sometime too
and it was equally annoying then to have some ole timer rabbit on about rules

Pagwatch Fri 07-Oct-11 19:34:41

My you gets is 9. I think she would be most alarmed if I tried to feed her.

Bibbs is right. Staring a thread after 30 seconds about how shit the place is, is daft.
But they are entertaining.

LynetteScavo Fri 07-Oct-11 19:35:33

Of course MN should evolve...but lets face it racists who like to beat their DC are never going to fit in.
