AIBU?

To think it's not ok for a taxi company to send car which already has a passenger in it?

I'm SO irritated! We call a cab for school run on Fridays...DH takes them and we are saving up for a car atm. I work from home and can't drive...school is 2 miles away and usually we catch the bus or sometimes a lift.

Today the cab has rolled up with some girl sitting in the front passenger seat!

DH seemed unpeturbed. We had DH, DD aged 7 and DD aged 3 all sitting on the back seat and some bloody young woman in the front!

AIBU if I call the company to complain? DH felt it was probably the drivers girlfriend or something....I feel that if you pay for the hire of a car and driver, that does not include some freeloading girlfriend!

Yanbu I would not have accepted the cab. You pay fir a service so you should get that service. Complain to the taxi company

I think you need to take a chill pill. Yes, it is a bit weird, but it was a two mile journey and I am sure you have more important things to worry about.

I didn't want to accept it but DH insisted....he said he didn't want the DC to be late....its not on though is it...what on earth were the thinking?

But if I take a chill pill about it ScarletsMummy then the guy will do it again....and if he was picking up my Mum...or some other vulnerble older person, and it wasn't a young woman he had as a passenger...but a hulking great fella....then it would be different.

think I will call and complain.

I assumed it wasn't a paying customer Natasha...but rather someone to do with the company....or maybe his gf.

how exactly is she freeloading?

OK, it's a little unusual but really, she didn't take anything from you, she didn't add expense to your bill, and unless she was sat toking off a hookah filled with skunk really she didn't do any harm.

should have asked to split the fare with the other passenger

She took up DH's seat! I had to put DD in with no booster Fimble. She can pay for her own frigging taxi and not get in mine!

I would not want to splt the fare....it's not on to assume that either....even if they offered DH a discount it's still not ok.

Its called a "private" cab for a reason.

complain, when they sent the cab, did they know how many people would be needing the car? If you had agreed to give a lift to a 3rd child, there wouldn't be space.

It could be that she works for hte company and was either being trained or was monitoring the driver, I'd call somehting like that is perfectly reasonable, but only if they have explained it to you first when you booked the taxi and checked you were ok with it.

Not acceptable. Especially as one of your DC had to use a booster.

If I had booked a taxi and was on my own and it had another person in as well as the driver I'm not sure I would get in, it would make me feel very vulnerable.

Also if she was a paying passenger the fare should have been split rather than the taxi co getting double.

No, I agree it isn't ok - but you needed to have done something at the time, and if you didn't want to be upfront about it "I need to put 2 child seats in the back and sit in the front myself".
Yes complain now, so they don't do it again.

We're regulars Lydia...they knew who was getting in. I don't think training should take place without asking and certainly not on a regular school run drive....

Chasing...I agree...but DH wasn't having it.He's too well mannered and too unfussy. I would have ordered another...couldn't really kick the girl out.....I definately wanted to not take it and be late rather than use it.

I agree with LydiaWickham. It could be there is a valid reason for someone else being in the car, but it should be explained beforehand if that is the case.

Assuming no explanation was offered, I would complain. Although I would have used the taxi on this occasion I would want it to be made clear that any future journeys would not include other passengers.

YANBU

call and complain now - get it done ASAP. If you are regulars they should know that the booster seats take up part of the back of the cab. they also shouldn't assume you wouldn't have an extra person today just becuase you regularly don't.

If you're regulars, at a time of day they probably don't get much trade, then they should look after you. Is there another taxi firm you can use?

I just called DH and he said it was the drivers sister....he was showing her the routes as she wants to be a driver. Hmm

Not really good enough imo but DH is all "Oh don't complain he's a really nice guy and someone else will anyway."

I won't but I must be the Evil Queen or something because I get really annoyed by things like this.

Bare minimum if they want to keep your trade - they refund this journey.

DH says the office didn't know he had his sister in the cab...and it wold get the guy in bother....

COMPLAIN! Just because your DH wants to be Mr Nice Guy doesn't mean it's ok.

If she's not working for them, is not a passanger, it could cause insurance problems for them to have her in the car at the same time as the car is being paid for.

But surely they should assume that if you book a taxi that all seats are free. What if you needed to get in too? Maybe had meeting at school ect? So not on, I would complain

Report
pigletmania · 07/10/2011 09:15

I agree op the extra seat was needed. I would definitely complain to the company, not on especially as the prices of cabs are high as it is

GumballCharm · 07/10/2011 09:15
