AIBU?

to think that if Gumtree wants to be a business, it needs a phone number?

AIBU to think that any business (in this instance, Gumtree) should publish a phone number for queries and not rely on email and totally inadequate FAQs?

My situation is that I posted a job ad 2 days ago and probably because it contains the word 'maternity', it keeps tripping some manual check they do. Not to mention that when it went live, was under the wrong location. So it's been sitting in the processing state since then as they 'spot check' my edits to the location. So in two days, it's been live for probably 5 hours.

Of course no-one responds to emails.. Meanwhile my job post can't be seen and just gets bumped down the list as it was originally posted 2 days ago.

Don't you think it's just bad business practice not to have a phone number? If you want to take my money, you should provide some level of customer support.

I agree email communication can be frustrating when your waiting for something - it's always the thing you need to know that never seems to be covered in a websites help pages.

I suppose if Gumtree were to offer telephone support the cost of their service would be much higher than the £29.70 they currently charge for a single 60 day job vacancy advert.

eBay are the same. They don't really want you to ring!

Don't know much about gumtree though, can you relist?

Yes, that is true but perhaps setting expectations that it's on a best endeavours basis would be more honest?

I'm sure they will respond, Gumtree is part of EBay - they are an enormous company.

Hi MammyT,

I'm the online community manager for Gumtree, and I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble posting your ad.

If our FAQ's haven't answered your question and you'd like a more speedy response than the email form, you can contact our Gumtree customer services team instantly via our Facebook and Twitter pages. They'll need your ad reference so be sure to include it.

Currently we only have dedicated phonelines for business accounts - but we value your feedback so do please let us know via our social media estates if you feel we can improve our services :)

Thanks,
Sarah - The Gumtree Team.
