to feel like crying after spending 4 and 1/2 hours looking for DH's passport (newbie here, just want to sound off a bit really, please be kind to me)

I found the damn thing, in one of the first places I looked, obviously not properly!
Going on hol on Saturday with DH and 2 DS, both under 5. Haven't packed a thing, thought I'd get all the paperwork etc sorted first, passports, online check-in etc (which I was able to do cos I had copies of our passports).

Thought it would just be a simple matter of pulling open home office drawer (sounds posh, but everything still gets swallowed up into a black hole, it seems, got huge piles of stuff to file) and retrieving our passports but DH's wasn't there.

Long story short, I found it but feel incredibly stressed and just want to cry actually. (DH did look for a good while but I said I'd find it cos I'm in charge of all the paerwork etc, it's not that he was abdicating responsibility)

I know this isn't really an AIBU, and apologies for being a bold newbie. Have been lurking here for ages and posted a couple of times. I just wanted to vent a bit and this is the only forum I go on regularly.

I need to go and have a shower cos I feel grotty after pulling out drawers and cupboards all over the house, then I am going to have a large glass of wine and very possibly, a good cry! Had about 4 hours sleep last night due to painful shoulder and doesn't look like I will get much sleep tonight either.

I know I must be very disorganised but will someone please say something nice to me, I really am stressed and upset. Thanks and sorry for being a wimp and on the wrong board. Hopefully the late hour will excuse me.

Aw....not sure what to say...I could tell you some tales of failing to renew passports though...

Uwbu to think the passports would all be together. Those new ones have a chip in that is actually a hiding beacon. This ensures the most important one us always missing. The govt then gain revenue from either

A. It's replacement, which causes the old one to reappear

Or

B. The vat from the bottle of wine you drink to aid the hunt, the further bottle to celebrate finding it and the last bottle for post traumatic stress.

Lost passports are the bane of my life! Along with lost birth certificates.

I am very well meaning about paperwork but I end up with a pile of stuff that I mean to put away and then it gets shoved in a cupboard. DD (4 months) has 2 BC's (the big one and the little one) and I needed to send them both off for things. Both are now in the pile but I am not sure where. DS's hasnt been seen for 2 years (he is 20) but I suspect HE lost that one :o

Oh, and thanks for the compliment about the punctuation etc (whispers very quietly, I'm a teacher, I should be able to punctuate! Although I was aware of using "cos", without even an apostrophe at the start! Bad habit, I know)

I've discovered all sorts of useful documents in my quest: free travel insurance courtesy of the Alliance and Leicester, a 25% discount for a very expensive hairdresser which I've just started going to (chosen for thier expertise and they worked miracles in restoring my hair colour), all sorts of Tesco points vouchers; a veritable treasure trove in fact!

I have had Crates as well, in fact, I discovered some dotted round the house full of stuff which I obviously just dumped there to get it out of the road, I mean whilst efficiently tidying-up before guests arrived for DS's birthdays!

(don't know how to strike through yet, sorry! Oh, and a friend came to party a couple of years ago, think it was a a 2nd birthday, and 'phoned beforehand to say she wasn't sure about coming 'cos she was skint and couldn't afford a present, only had a card. I told her not to be so daft, we were over-run with toys etc and would rather she just brought herself, as she is such fun. See, I have been reading other posts haha!)

I'm sorry if it sounded as I was gloating about going on holiday, I really wasn't. Tbh, I paid for it with (one of my many) Visa cards and no doubt I'll be paying for it for quite a long time, incurring loads of interest too.

I booked it months ago but a couple of weeks ago, we were hit with a £600 repair bill for the car, I certainly wouldn't have considered going on holiday after that if I hadn't already booked it.

I don't know if you were being funny, or deliberately unkind, I honestly can't tell. But I don't think there was any need to make comments like that to a newbie when I'd already explained myself and that I was upset.

I don't want to start an unpleasant discussion, but I feel I have to make some kind of reply to you. And yes, I do have a hard life, in a number of ways, I suffer from chronic pain form 2 different conditions; one being pregnancy related. My "baby" is 3 now and I still have Symphisis Pubis Disfunction; to put it simply, I can hardly walk upstairs and I now have mobility problems, not to mention the pain.

dealing with that and 2 small boys is difficult, so I decided to book us a nice holiday where hopefully, I will be able to rest a bit and alleviate the strain on my pelvic joints, as well as spending time with my DH without us sniping and narking at each other, 'cos we are so tired (as are most parents, I know).

However, I shouldn't have to justify why I chose to go on holiday with my family.

I think you're being quite organised OP . In the past I usually pack at 3am before we leave at 7 am. I've had several huge hunts for my passport. On one hideous family holiday (mum, brother, sister, DN and me) we all thought someone else had retrieved the passports from the hotel safe and arrived at the airport without them. The hotel send a driver with them .... To the wrong airport! We had to pay for 4 more flights and a hotel.
Anyway DH is now in charge of all family important paperwork. Hope that makes you feel a bit better OP and that you have a great holiday with your family

I once hid my passport in a 'safe place' and forgot I'd done it until the night before I was going away with my mum somewhere. To say she was stressed is a bit of an understatement I found it in the end behind a stack of video tapes

Ah don't feel bad, I've got some excellent tales of lost passports. I didn't tell DH that I'd misplaced DS's passport for several weeks as I knew I'd get an earful about putting it back in the correct location (it's my mantra so would deserve it). I finally found it in the scanner when I went to scan my driving license after planning elaborate missions to go to DH's home country to replace it without his knowledge :)

Don't feel bad, two weeks ago my DH lost his passport while in Berlin, complete arse to get another one and get home.

Then we very nearly booked a last minute holiday before realising that DS2 doesn't even have a passport......

We aren't great with passports it seems!
