I think some tattoos can look very pretty.

But I think those people who have tattoos behind their ear or on their neck look awful. Especially when they are young girls. They are going to look awful when they are older.

I hate them as well.
Yes, I think that some can look pretty, but I do think it is best to have them where they can be hidden, for, say a formal occasion.

But I am old Smile

YANBU but I don't get tattoos anyway. Being the type that gets bored with the same wallpaper after a year or so, the idea of permanent skin graffiti fills me with horror.

Agree they should be somewhere it's easy to hide.

Had a friend who had one. This was fine with his life-style as it was when he had it done. However, in his late 20s he discovered a great talent for maths and went on to do a doctorate and become an accademic at quite a conservative institution. He felt obliged to wear long sleeves all of the time

sorry to offend anyone but i hate ALL tattoos. i hate it when people show me their new tattoo and i'm expected to say something nice. i try to tell people not to ask me what they think to their tattoos prior to them having them done as i just don't like them. so OP YANBU for hating those tattoos. why do you hate them in that particular area though more than any other area?

I think they look common and stupid.

There. I have said it.

I don't like tattoos much, and don't see the point at all, but at least if you have it somewhere else you can hide it if, like most people, your life changes after 10 years and you might not like the tattoo any more.

But behind your ear and on your neck, it is usually going to be visible. And hideous.

Why have your kid's name tattooed there? You can't even see it.

My stepson, who has about 15 tattooes everywhere, says he will never get a tattoo on his neck just in case one day it would stop him getting a job somewhere.

Perhaps it is their own name and they are worried about getting lost?

It could be a sensible and practical precaution.

In a moment of teenage madness I almost got a small snoopy tattoo behind my ear but thankfully chickened out and got my belly button pierced instead.

My thinking was it could be easily hidden under my hair but I would have had to end up with long grey witchy hair as an old lady.

Yes but it wouldn't help if they have to look in a mirror to finjd out their own name.

It would say Jade, but the poor fool would go round saying that she was called Edaj.

When I say hooked, I don't mean hooked on tattoos...I mean hooked on quite how hideous/badly done/badly spelled etc they can be

I would like a tattoo with all the Chaotics' heights on taken on every birthday. We currently do it on the garage door but that's going when we extend, so I need somewhere to preserve it.

Now, that's not tacky, it's istoric.

I saw a man a few months ago that had a name and the date of birth and date of death tattoed on the back of his neck. I worked it out that the little boy was 8 months old when he died Sad.

I have very mixed feelings about that one.

my DS stepmother is a tattooist. She did my tattoo. She refuses to do hands/face/neck, basically anywhere that is not easily covered by a long sleeve shirt.

I don't show my tattoo off (except in summer, if i wear a vest) and i've had it 6 years now and some friends still don't know i have it.

I do understand why some people don't like them, and even though I do have one I have a personal dislike for 'fashion' tattoos or someone just having one they picked from stock flash.
My tattooist only does custom work, and she's fussy about what/who she tattoos.

there was an article on the bbc recently about regretable tattoos. Some of them were hilarious.

I wonder what happened to the woman who posted in babynames trying to find a name for her DC that would fit into her DP's crossword tattoo? Hm.
