as a teen i was a goth. black lipstick and dark attitude i had my DS at the age of 18 so i 'grew' up and dressed as what my mum would call normal but in the last few months my pink converse shoes have secretly been finding their way on to my feet beneath my jeans with an excuse of "they're comfy for driving" but i cant let go of my punk rock style and have been craving it for years! i dont mean black lippy etc, just flared jeans and wanting to get my pink guitar out just have an 'individul' sense of style?
(as you can see pink is my fav colour lol)

im 23 now with 2 DC am i being silly to not be able to let go of my style? DP hasnt said anything

I am 42 and still dress exactly how I want to and wear what I like.. if that is 4" stiletto boots, a green day vest, and black spandex trousers, that is what I will wear... and I usually have some wierd colour in my hair..

I turned 30 last weekend and I still dress in jeans, T shirts and trainers (plimsoll type), pretty much the same as I did when I was in my late teens and twenties.

Twenty-three is still very young really, maybe when you're pushing 40 you can re-assess (some can pull off the 'young and trendy' look when older, some can't, and whether you care or not is up to you!).

I'll be 21 for the second time ( ;) ) on Sunday and I dress like a 20 year old, slightly modified so as not to come under the heading "mutton dressed as lamb" but there's a fair few years between me and a twinset.

I have to say, I went out with my work colleagues on Friday, they range in age from 19-36.
I held my own and had loads of compliments on my clothes, dancing and sense of fun. Apparently I am a "Legend" (though that could be them laughing at me?!).

Unfortunately it took me 2 days to get over that night, they all went out on the Saturday as well and were fresh as a daisy.

Sooo, bloody well enjoy being in your early 20s!

I am 44 and still waiting to wear grown up stuff. I was an original goth in the 80s. I had a period when I tried to be more mumsy, but it didn't last. being goth/alternative is me- it's who I am and it is more than just what I wear. I wear what I like and what I am comfortable in- not what other people expect me to wear.

I'm 47 and have a very distinctive style of my own and when i see programmes like This Morning with all these 'older' models and Hollyby Willowby going all gushy 'oooh look how gorgeous this dress is at only 10 zillion pounds'...or 'this one is great for hiding those bulges'....Aaaargh I wouldn't be seen dead in anything they show thank you very much.

Right now I have pink and purple hair...there's a clue! I wear doc martins and lacy tights and hippy dresses and hats and loads of bling of the large variety and scarves round my waist and...oh you get the picture I'm sure.

Who makes the rules her which dictate how you should look? Bugger that for a game of soldiers love, wear what you want and enjoy yourself.
Don't take life too seriously cos no one gets out alive anyway.

Good grief, you are 23! Im 26 and embracing the clothing style you are trying so hard to shun....my 30 week baby bump is squeezed beneath funky t-shirts (maternity ones just are a bit meh)...I have just packed the babies hospital stuff into my old Ramones satchel for hospital and cought it a couple of (to my MILs horror) black vests.

Cannot keep out of my Toms, and I am unashamed.

Dress in your style. WHatever that is. Do not Frumpify earlier than is absoloutley necessary!

I was talking to a Grandmother at DS1's football practice this evening and she must have had 8 earrings in one ear (couldn't see the other, was dying to have a good gawp), tattoos on her hands and wrists and v trendy dressed.

She must have been at least 55.

She actually looked fab. Was very well spoken and good company.

I have sooo learned not to judge by appearances. Do what you like!

I'm 23 as well (and in cardiff) and know what you mean about worrying about clothes and the like. Don't want to go too far either way but every now often the 'odd' stuff creeps in. My guitars staring at me now as well...
