I took the dog out at about 10pm. just as I was nearly home a car drove past going towards the end of the lane - it's a dead end and there are only 2 houses beyond ours. It pulled over and a man got out. I was quite a distance away - maybe 30 yards, but he seemed to bend down, examine the bottom of his car, then wash his hands and arms in the stream. Intrigued I loitered and then he splashed water on his back windscreen. AIBU to think this a bit odd?
I'm off out now to check out whether the car is there again - ie to see if he lives there.
Bloody hell!! That is odd but dont worry ..... maybe he hit a badger and it was stuck on the bottom of the car? does not explain the splashing of water on the back windscreen though but if its dark maybe it just looked like it?
it was last night - just realised it sounded like it was tonight. I was too far away to get the number plate - it was a distinctive car though as it was a driving instructor car. I have to confess I looked at the local police website today to see if there's been any incidents that it could possibly be tied to. but no. I just can;t think of a reasonable explanation. Car not there just now and I don't think it normally is.
if it was a driving school car mot likely explanation i that a student he had just dropped off had a bit of a bump, maybe went into the ditch and gotmud over the back windsreen by spinning the wheels tring to get out. the man waited til he dropped student off before checking for damag and cleaning the back windscreen.
milkmilklemonade - it's not my business - which is why I didn't go marching up to him and say "excuse me my man what are you doing?" It did, however, leave me wracking my brains, and failing to come up with an explanation and hence posting on here to see if other people too would "wonder" (see thread title) what he was doing and/or if they could come up with an explanation.
and there was, tbh, a little bit of me wondering if there could be a sinister explanation - and I wondered if anyone else would think that too.
have you seriously never been interested by other people's behaviour even when it's not your business?
No, nobody's business but still makes for an intriguing thread on a lazy, wet Saturday afternoon. And it brings out all us amateur Sherlocks. Hmmm, Yup, I agree with Valhalla, he probably hit an animal.
However unlikely a sinister explanation might be, the thought crossing your mind is a justification for it being your business.
If I saw someone I didn't recognise up a ladder at my neighbours house and climbing in their window, it might not be my house or business, but I would ask them WTF they were up to - nicely of course, because that's the just kind of person I am
I love these threads, the wilder the explanations the better.
I think the explanation has to be sinister. Perhaps he reversed into someone tall, they hit the rear window and then he ran over them backwards. The hand washing is simply him trying to cope with the guilt Lady Macbeth style "Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand?".
