I had the pleasure of sitting behind 2 locallers at TheJoyThatIsSwimmingLessons today.

I normally let the yamyam flow over me, but oh my very shirt fuse today just could not stand it.

It took about 76megapixels of resolution not to stand up and shout "Use proper words you massacrists".

Does your local accent drive you full of angst?

AIBU to dislike it so terribly much?

Are you from the west Midlands by any chance?

Not actually the accent, just the speed and volume and sheer innaccurate use of the English language. Just dreadful. Makes a lot of local people sound as thick as 2 short planks. Which quite a few of them are.

I love my local accent...Cockney/Essex mix as long as the person speaking isn't an utter twat.

Isn't Yam Yam specific to Wolverhampton? If so I hated it when I lived there too...but I'm Welsh so there's only so much I can say!

The East Yorkshire dialect and accent is not that bad! I worked in Beverly for a while and couldn't understand what was going on half the time.

Never heard the expression before, but I like it.

Ooo I love the Black Country accent! I think it has a lovely air of stoicism, with a hint of lugubriousness. I'm an immigrant to the UK though, so regional accents are fascinating to me.

Scousers say lolly ices and pants instead of trousers. And they are loud

I'm from the west midlands, I feel your pain. I'm now in the East Midlands, the accent is very different but still as annoying.

YANBU. Our town has a terrible local accent that makes everyone sound illiterate. I find myself slipping every noe ad again [adjusts snobby pants] :o

However, they probably can type much better than me...

The accent here sounds like raptor chicks demanding to be fed. It's all high pitched and harsh.

My accent is pure W. Midlands. When I'm pissed, Mr. Maras says that I sound like the late Queen Mum from Spitting Image.

God I hate the Yorkshire accent-it does my head in.

To hear it come out of my children's mouths-horrible.

But I love regional accents in general, I like scouse and lancs and I love my native Norfolk and west country too.

But 'Yorkshire' is beyond the pale.

Lucky to be a Londoner. No, I'm not a Cockney fan in particular - the good part is that the sheer amount of accents around me prevent overexposure to the degree of annoyance.

I like my own English accent. It's a nice and soft sounding mix between English absent father and American dominated private school with a faint trace of Germanic.

On the other hand, I have learned the most ghastly type of German spoken anywhere on the surface of the planet from my otherwise lovely mum.
