I think that sounds lovely. It's your wedding - do what you like.

YANBU (as long as you let the women have the beer too!).

I personally prefer a buffet type reception to the more formal affairs.

Congratulations and have a great day. :)

no you are not, but are you sure that by that time your guests wont be hungry for a more substantial meal? I would be by then...

if children are coming aswell they might need a bit more filling, this is what put me off a late pm wedding.

although the light will be gooorrrgeeeoouuusss

YANBU So long as you let people know in advance so they won't be expecting a meal.

Why beer for the men? Confused

Yanbu. I wanted that, was overruled and regretted it. My good friend did it and no-one batted an eyelid.

What's not filling about a sandwich, a pasty, a pie and beer? Sounds good to me. I'd be stuffed.

Sounds wonderful. We didn't have a lot to spend, so had an afternoon wedding with just a buffet.

If we go to an afternoon wedding, then I'd expect to have to eat before I went, not to have a sit down mean and a buffet later.

My mums getting married on Saturday at 4pm. At 5:30pm we will be having a hot buffet of various things like chilli con carne, jacket spuds, and a couple of other main dishes as well as salad (you get the jist) and then a cold buffet for the evening guests later on.

IMO you are NBU as wedding breakfasts are redicioulsy (sp) overpriced tbh with very little, if any, choice. Buffets and BBQ/Hot roasts are the way forward Grin

We got married at 4pm and had a BBQ. It was great fun, far less formal and everyone said how much better it was.

YANBU
I'm having a tea party at 4pm and then a BBQ in the evening :)
Although, we are already married but getting our vows renewed, just as exciting though!

YANBU, we went to a 4pm wedding recently with a sit down buffet and were the second-to-last table to get fed at 8.30. Not a problem for me & DH, but our kids (both under 4) and the elderly diabetics at our table were starving by 7.30 so we decided to (politely) push in & get something for them (we waited our turn though!).

Much nicer and more inclusive to have something informal so that people can help themselves & not feel embarrassed about having to step out of turn iyswim.

YABU about beer for the men though!

Hmmm.

I don't think YABU, but I'm not sure if I once committed a faux pas in this area myself.

We got married at 3PM. Full sit down three course meal at about 5.30PM. In the evening, just canapes.

The canapes and the cake were wolfed down.

I still wonder if people thought we were being massively tight for not providing another round of food. But I just can't picture sitting down to a three course meal at 5.30 then wanting to eat again.

So, jury is out.

Sit down buffet = no waitress service.

And a full 3 course meal at 5.30 then canapes sounds like loads to me!

This sounds great to me. And just as filling as a sit down meal [assuming there is plenty of food].
It's also a good idea to serve beer and wine, though I wouldn't specify sexes.

We got married at 1pm then had an all day/evening buffet. We self catered a lot to save money and make the ongoing-ness possible, with help from family and friends instead of presents so I wasn't there scooping trifle other than into my own face in my wedding dress! People could just help themselves as and when and sit where they liked too. We had a live band in the early evening and then open mic later on. It was great and worked so well. No one was starving or uncomfortable because they could eat as much or as little as they liked and when ever they liked. We stated that the reception started at 3 on the invites so guests would presumably have known to have lunch? If it's what you'd prefer do it!
