AIBU?

FIL double-dips in the communal yoghurt pot

This not a metaphor.

In my book, once the spoon has been in the mouth it stays out of the of the shared pot. To be clear, I don't think the plague is going to be spead (although he still does it while bemoaning a vicious cold) but I prefer to choose who I share slevers with.

I'm not going to mention it to him, I have learned to get to the unopened pot first and memorise the ones to avoid but AIBU? Should I shake aside my gag reflex and welcome this as a deeper level of intimacy that could strength our familial bond?

WTF is a communal yog pot?

EWWWWWWWWW

And you should never double dip in the big pots of yoghurt anyway, they start to go off faster when contaminated by bacteria from your mouth.

Did I say

EWWWWWWWWWW

Buy him his own yoghurt problem solved

OP you've caused me to consider a dichotomy I've never previously acknowledged. That being; yoghurt pot multiple spoon sharing , and yet Ben & Jerry's = OK.

I cannot explain this.

That's grim. What's he doing in your fridge?

And you have a communal yoghurt pot because .........?

I was rather hoping it was a metaphor.

No, it's disgusting and I would tell him straight to dish himself up a portion into a separate bowl and keep his manky spoon out of it!

Its the cold of the ice cream vivi, kills the germs off .

Althought I still prefer a tub of B and J to myself :-)

Big pot Yeo Valley, Rachel's, Onken etc

Nah, can't say anything. He's a truly lovely man (excepting this and some other food-related habits I find slightly grim but don't have a direct bearing on me so I can live with boak). He would be genuinely bewildered, potentially hurt and have read too much AIBU not to appreciate my cushy inlaw number.

Think am a bit phobic - spoon in the B&J pot not doing it for me either...

OP I misread your op. I assumed you were on about your DH not FiL. Urgh... grim. DP & I share the Ben & Jerry's spoon if someone's forgotten to get one each, but I wouldn't share with anyone other than him.

Yuck! But easily solved, surely, by buying individual pots when he is visiting?

Report
Nevertooearlyforcake · 18/09/2011 23:52

Have started buying them for me. They often do a bit of food shopping themselves when they're visiting and would never buy anything but a big pot. DH doesn't care though if it were my own father I'd have been just as revolted.

We all double dip in our house (me DH and DS) but thats cos otherwise you would lose out in the youghurt stakes cos it doesn't last long enough ( and we all hate washing up too much to create extra!)
However, if we had guests then yes indiviual portions would be dished out and no double dipping allowed (except for scrapping the pot purposes)
So YANBU to not waNt to share, but I would probably let it lie if you have coping mechanisims and he is otherwise a great FIL.

Gross. Sign for your fridge door, if he asks pretend the kids/dh were caught dd'ing, and pretend to not have noticed that fil does it.

YANBU.

It's akin to drinking out of the milk carton.

Oh, and since when has B&J been a sharing sixe?

Hmm

Does he eat some of it directly from the pot and then put it back in the fridge? If so that is gross.

If you have some on the table and everyone is sharing, then why isn't there a serving spoon for the yoghurt so that no-one uses their personal spoon to take some from the pot?

Oh I think it should be a metaphor!

YAButterlyU to have a communal yogurt pot. That's just vile. If you must have such an ignorant vessel on the breakfast table then you should have one serving spoon and put it into individual bowls with your fruit/cereal/whatever.

I also appear to have inserted the word 'butterly' into my post randomly!
