AIBU?

to take 3yo dd to McDonalds?

We were out, in a hurry and with few options available. It was the first time she has ever eaten McDonalds. She wasn't even all that impressed, eating less than half her burger and just one of her fries!

But dh is acting as though I've fed her class A drugs.

I might understand his pov if he was some kind of health freak, but you should see the shut he puts into his own body on a daily basis. Including McDonalds and KFC.

AIBU? Do you give your dc the occasional McDonalds?

I take my 6 year and almost 4 year old every other week - every Fri after school.

Your dh is a bit hypocritical imo. Fair enough if he didn't eat it himself.

My 4 year old has had the odd Mcd's - mainly because she has an older sister (almost 8)

Imho Mcd's isn't ideal for a 3 year old (or anyone really) but once in a while, no real issue with it.

I think you should be shot at dawn.

Disgusting parenting.

i think there are far worse things you could feed your child occasionally..

FGS, it's a McDonald's not crack cocaine on toast. Your DH needs to get over it. And yes, I take DS for the occasional Maccy D's because you know what? I like the odd one too. My DS struggles to finish the burgers too, so I'd suggest a fish finger or chicken nuggets happy meal next time. That's if your DH allows a next time.

YANBU. We go possibly once a month or so, the 4 and 6 year old have standard happy meals. My 1 year old has fish fingers and a bag of carrot sticks/fruit. Well she's had that twice.

Some people don't understand the difference between a diet of McDonalds and eating McDonalds very occasionally. Stupid and annoying if you ask me.

Once in a very occasional while, I'd not worry about it. I'd rather give DD a bought sandwich if I was pressed to get anything but she has had a McD, ate the fries and that was it. I love the occasional McD and the gherkin is part of that love!

Ok, she is three years old, not three months FGS.

Your DH is being unreasonable.

I had a thread very similar to this.
my ds has been about 3 times, and DH does not like it one bit, and very hypocritical because he eats BK and KFC.

there's nothing wrong with it
tell him to get over it

Exactly MrsGravy. One time in 3 years. Geez.

His argument against the hypocrisy is that he can make choices for himself but dd relies on us to make the right choices for her.

I fully expected to get flamed by you lot for this.

Whether or not YABU, it's not hypocritical of your DH, he's an adult and can choose to put crap in his body.

oops, x-post!

Funnily enough bushymcbush, I DID get flamed (only by one or two posters) on another thread when I said the odd McDonalds wasn't the end of the world...

Food like that is fine as long as it's not what the whole diet is based on!

That said. It's nightly unlikely ds will have a mcdonalds any time in the near future as I never have it, he had had Kfc once though

picnicbasketcase · 17/09/2011 22:23

There's nothing wrong with the occasional bit of crap food. He'd have cause to complain if you were giving her it three times a week, but once in a while it's fine.

Why does everyone assume McDs is burgers/nuggets, fries and shake?

Last time I looked MdDs it did salad, milk, water, carrot bags etc etc etc.

TBH - burger = 'beef patty" when served up in MN regulars house .... fries = saute potatoes when dished up in MN house etc etc

It's no worse than kids' food in a restaurant. Probably better than some.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 17/09/2011 22:48

Pah, let them eat shite I say, it tastes nice and won't hurt once in a while.

My dp's the same, puts away takeaways and all kinds of shite yet was eyebrow dancing when I bought the baby bells a takeaway recently (thai spare ribs and chips). They're 12 and 10 ffs !

pozzled · 17/09/2011 22:52

YANBU. McDonalds is no worse than a lot of stuff which is seen as perfectly acceptable for kids. It won't do her any harm whatsoever, and the fact that she wasn't that impressed shows that she hasn't been brainwashed or anything.

FWIW I don't take my 3 year-old, but only because she won't eat burgers or chips or chicken nuggets. I do (occasionally) give her things like chinese take aways which are just as bad.
