Are people getting worse or it is just me?

In the park next to the school to put DS on the swings before picking up the rest of the DCs. There are a group of women sitting on the bench with prams. One of them starts shouting 'Alfie get ere now' in a screechy, screamy voice which causes me to turn around and look at her. She turns to her friend and loudly says 'if that stupid fucking cow looks at me again, I'm gonna tell her to fuck off'. I was gobsmacked as as far as I am aware, I only looked at her once and all for about 2 seconds. I did not say anything back as she obviously wanted to create a problem. Who would behave like that with loads of DCs around, with her baby next to her and why should'nt I bloody look at her. Can we not look at a fellow human being without being sworn about anymore?

Then driving home, coming towards a roundabout where I have right of way, I assume that the car coming straight down is going to stop and give way (as I am on his right and my right is clear) and No, he speeds up and goes straight across coming within inches of hitting us. I beep at him, he sticks his fingers up and yells to 'fuck off or I'll do ya'. I have 4 DCs in the car.

All this in an affluent home counties town.

What is wrong with people these days?

People like this have been around for as long as I remember. I'm a huge wuss and women like the one in the park make me scared and usually bring me to tears! I hate that this is how people are, but certainly remember them being here in the 80's,90's and 00's too.

What time period are you thinking of where people were all nice to each other?

People were nice only between 1367 and 1369 and that was just a fluke.

Goodness me in your affluent home counties town too!

I'd move to Brixton if I were you, quick smart.

I am too young to remember when people were nice.

Well despite the affluent area the old adage 'You can buy taste but you can't buy class' is clearly still applicable Wink

I got punched in the park once for looking at some woman. Didn't even know she was there until she hit me. Confused

YANBU to be irritated at the creature who swore at you in the park.

YANBU to be irritated at the other driver at the roundabout.

YABU to imagine that this is at all uncommon.

Such animals are everywhere unfortunately.

1367 and 1369 - agree both quiet years, but it did all go horribly wrong in 1369 - war declared between France and England, the French recovered Aquitaine.

You have had a particularly bad day op.

Its typical though isn't it? first the playground and then the car.

I get days like that ,then the next everyone I encounter is wonderful.

I tend to think most people are nice, and that life has thrown them things we have no idea about.

Those two you got today sound a little on the vile side though. :)

Is it like this in other countries I wonder? It doesn't seem to be - in which case what's wrong with the Brits?

I'm naturally brilliant!

[lying through teeth emoticon].

I knew there was a war about then, which is why I went to check - not google, the "Timeline of World History"

People aren't rude to one another in other countries StopRaining?

Where are you thinking of?

Of course in the following year, 1370, on May 24 The Treaty of Stralsund ended the war between Denmark and the Hanseatic League.

Agent I'm in Sweden and haven't had a single rude incident of the type I encountered every time I went out in the UK. (Unless you include the racist old trout who works in the bakery who pretends she doesn't understand my Swedish.)

I agree with you - unless I'm just noticing these horrible people more now that I have children and nothing else to do.

Sure you can get rude people everywhere. But yobbishness is especially British I think.
