to denote a patronising tone, eg

YABU. The economy is very complicated, dear [DavidCameron]

Why don't you stick to posting about kittens rather than worrying about the deficit [DavidCameron]

You sound a bit frustrated, dear [DavidCameron]

Only if it is balanced up with a [Ed Miliband] emoticon to denote pointless whining.

What about just his big round condom head a la Steve Bell?

We could have a whole range of emoticons.

Such as [BorisJohnston] for over-privileged clapptrapp

The [David Cameron] should be a nice ham, to denote the shiney smoothness of his face and his glibness.

Boris is the only Tory I can actually cope with.

YANBU though. A ham would be a good idea calatalie. Or a talking butt. Sorry to be crude.

A little ginger [Hazel Blears] emoticon to denote that the statement is patronising and hypocritical....

he really is a twat, isn't he?

I was ranting about discussing the economy calmly with DH last night - if the tax on fuel (petrol and diesel) is cut in half, that would take the price per litre down to an average of 98p.

I can't believe Cameron still can't work out how significant it is!
Cost to shop of items will go down, cost to supplier will go down, cost of getting anywhere will go down, people will shop i nthe shops, business won't go out of business - it's like a domino effect - everything relies on the price of fuel.
even going on about people not using their cars, but using public transport instead - they can't because the price of each ticket has gone up because of the duty on fuel One of the ways to make public transport attractive to people is to reduce the cost of it....

There's a chance this thread might have not been a political discussion, but I was riled up about it.

That's all well and good but if people can't get jobs they aren't going to spend money in shops, which then invigorates the economy and provides more jobs. All these private and public sector job cuts are a false economy.

David Cameron = patronising
Miliband = ineffective
Osbourne = suspected lies Grin

How about a general [Twattish Politician] emoticon, because at the grand old age of 42 I've lived through quite a few Governments, and I can assure you they are all evil, lying, robbing bastards.

Report
nickelbabe · 15/09/2011 11:41

yes, that's true - but a big reason why the jobs aren't available is because of all the companies that have gone out of business because of the price of fuel.

think about it: every time a company goes into administration, the jobs have gone - even a small shop could employ 5 or 10 people.

It;s a huge vicious circle, and one of the things that will breakthrough it is reducing the duty on fuel - one of the few things that the government has control over.

No, no, Nickelbabe, carry on with politics discussion.

One of the reasons that Germany was not so hard hit by the recession was that they invested in infrastructure, meaning that jobs were created, rather than just slashing services.

Lots of civil service jobs have been cut though and they aren't dependent on the price of fuel - though I do agree the amount of tax on fuel is a bit mad.

Report
nickelbabe · 15/09/2011 11:58

yes, the civil service jobs have been cut as a way of saving money.
but that's necessary because the government pissed away all our money on bailing the bankers out.
I would love to know what other industry they would ever do that for - they've done the exact opposite with most others, and continue to want to, with the nhs and with education.

mme - very good point - I've always admired the german "business" model.
they don't rely so heavily on foreign imports as we do (and we have always done), and other things that I can't think of right now, but i will get right back on that.....

We could also have a [nickclegg] to denote indecisiveness and/or going back on your word

YABU, or perhaps YANBU [nickclegg]

Maisie: I'm older than you, and so have seen even more governments.

I completely agree that it's [twattish politicians] we need (just the emoticon, you understand - wish we didn't have the real life ones).

Particularly as some of DC's recent twattisms (benefits cuts to truants' parents) are straight, recycled Blair policies.

Or perhaps a merged DC/NC/TB. Dread to think what it would look like - but every part sounds the same.
