AIBU?

To be shocked at the poor service given by my local tooth fairy?

She or he forgot to turn up last night. DS1 is going to give her/ him another chance tonight. I've suggested the messy bedroom may have been off putting. What is the world coming to? Anyone else have lousy tooth fairies in their area? Can I employ one from John Lewis?

It's not the first time either. I think she needs to lay of the wine.

It's the recession. She is having to work longer and longer hours for fewer teeth. Tooth fairies all over the UK are feeling the pinch and having to cover for other fairies who ahve been made redundant.

Our tooth fairy once paid my son money raided from his piggy bank - gasp

I am sure the coin was replaced later though

We did have an incident where DS hid his tooth so well the tooth fairy couldn't find it, so we settled on leaving it on the windowsill the following night....

Our tooth fairy took so long to turn up there were 3 teeth in the tooth box.
She's a bit like Christmas, only comes once a year!

her excuse was that there was more than one tooth box in the room and how was she to know there were teeth in the second box....well she's a fairy they should know everything.

On a similar note my 5 year old thoughtfully told me yesterday that as what he wanted for Christmas was very expensive he was going to ask Father Christmas for it instead of me so that I didn't have to pay for it.

Bless him.

When I was younger, the tooth fairy invariably used to borrow sixpences from the jar next to my bed, so she's obviously still up to her old tricks.

When DD first encountered the tooth fairy, she would leave notes for her, and the tooth fairy always wrote back in rhyme. Mmm, now with three DCs, talk about making a rod for your own back . . . Anyway, DCs seem to be quite accepting of her inefficiencies, now that she's getting on a bit.

Awful what is this world coming to? Our local tooth faerie owes DD £2 already! DD has gone through a spate of losing baby teeth 4 in 2 weeks and the tooth faerie is too broke apparently to pay up for them til tomorrow.

Ours was 2 days late last winter. She got snowed in at the fairies' Christams party and by the time they were all dug out, it was too late to come that night as well. I think she just made it late the next morning while dd was in school!
We know all this because she writes to us!

Our tooth fairy forgot 3 nights running Blush

It was only the massive hysterical fit that ensued that made her turn back and she just managed to get the 50p under the pillow during a bathroom visit

Phew!

Ours went on strike because she had rheumatism and couldn't fly up the stairs anymore. Once we started leaving the teeth in the kitchen in a nice little dish of warm water so she could have a swim while she was there (to ease the aching wings) it was fine, AND she leaves some fairy dust behind which turns the water all coloured so we can see what colour her wings were that night...

dementedma · 14/09/2011 13:46

ooh pusporn coloured wings! You must have a senior fairy indeed.
Sadly, more negative feedback on the tooth fairy industry here too. has forgotten to turn up on more than one occasion, and reporting her to Fairy HG hasn't even merited a response. Shocking standards! The Magical Kingdom needs to drag itself into the 21st century and deliver to deadlines. Perhaps the tooth contract should go out to tender??

I think I might suggest tooth is left downstairs tonight, bang in the middle of the kitchen table in a suitable (very visible) container. Hope she has some change in her purse now! Thankfully two younger DCs haven't started loosing teeth yet, but we need to devise an easy new routine for the geriatric, wine loving tooth fairy as we have years of this ahead of us!

It was a forum suggestion from somewhere else lol, apparently ALL the American tooth fairies have coloured wings and shed the dust into the water, but never anywhere else.... so far nobody has noticed that ours almost always has red wings, apart from once when they were um, murky shall we say after some of Daddy's beer found its way in there and that Fairy was sacked for being drunk on the job

Well our tooth fairy got very embarrassed last year when DS woke up picked up his money, wrapped in a bit of paper so it didn't get lost in bed and went to throw the paper in the bin and found his tooth there. She left him a not the next day under his pillow saying that as he had eaten too many sweets and not done enough brushing his tooth was not able to go a tooth heaven Grin
