To be irritated when women play the 'birdlike appetite' shit?

Went to wedding. Every course that came the woman next to my dh bellowed 'Oh my gosh, that's too much I'll never eat that, does anyone want mine' and shoved her food on to his and everyone else's plate - standing up to do so for maximum effect.
The starter was TWO king prawns, the main was TWO slices of roast beef for cripes sake - I inhaled them in seconds.
Why not just leave some on the plate instead of drawing attention to her 'tiny, feminine appetite'?

Next wedding, sit her next to me. I eat like a vulture. grin

YANBU
Closely followed by women who get enormous amounts from a buffet or carvery and then eat one or two items and complain its too much hmm

My grandmother does this it drives me mad she has tiny tiny portions but the half an hour later she is clearly hungry because she searching the house for snack grin to her its almost like she is afraid to enjoy her food too much!

cjbartlett Sun 11-Sep-11 18:25:21

Was she teeny tiny?

pinkyredrose Sun 11-Sep-11 18:26:03

When did she say it was because of her 'tiny feminine appetite'? Maybe she just generally doesn't eat that much.

More to the point, why on earth does it bother you enough to start a thread on it?

inthehead Sun 11-Sep-11 18:27:10

Perhaps she has had a gastric band

Did she fall over 2 hours later pissed as a fart?

scuzy Sun 11-Sep-11 18:30:07

was it the fact that she showed up your appetite? so she didnt eat it ... i'd be waiting to get in their first when dessert came around and she offered it away.

many reasons why she didnt eat it all ... on a diet, not hungry, big breakfast, poor appetite, ill... why does it bother you?

sigh

scuzy Sun 11-Sep-11 18:30:47

some people are 3 square meals a day others are snackers.

Proudnscary Sun 11-Sep-11 18:32:28

No she wasn't teeny tiny - normal sized, size 12.
Scuzy - because she had to let everyone know for some bizarre reason...why not just leave what you can't manage on your plate rather than drawing attention to it?

inthehead Sun 11-Sep-11 18:33:18

I get it OP.

You look at the meal and think "Im starving. I could eat this and then some" and some bird makes a song and dance about the portions being "too big for ickle old them". Then you look at your empty plate and thinkl "maybe Im just a greedy fucker"?
wink

Olifin Sun 11-Sep-11 18:33:44

I don't think the issue is that she didn't want to eat much....but it sounds like she made a big show of it. Sounds like a bit of a pillock to me. YANBU OP smile

HecateQueenOfWitches Sun 11-Sep-11 18:34:02

I eat like a bird - half my body weight every day wink

I love women who order a salad and then pick off other people's (usually the Long Suffering Partner's) plate. I'm just waiting for the day LSP stabs them with his fork grin

It's like calories don't count if they are nabbed from someone else's dinner. [boggle]

Just have the chips, ffs grin

OracleInaCoracle Sun 11-Sep-11 18:34:25

I don't eat much. I have an eating disorder and am a nightmare at social events because I can only eat what I really fancy, when I fancy it. So I often pass meals onto other people. I also use the "tiny appetite" thing as an excuse.

YABU.

HeidiHole Sun 11-Sep-11 18:34:59

Wish she'd sit next to me so I could get her food...

slavetofilofax Sun 11-Sep-11 18:35:09

YABU, but the woman in your op doesn't sound like someone I would like to be sitting next to. Not because she didn't eat much, but because she went out of her way to draw attention to herself.

I sometimes go through phases of not eating very much, either because I'm trying to get my weight down or keep it where I like it, or because I'm stressed. It is really annoying when people comment on it, because they quite often do, even though I haven't said a word. I really don't understand why people feel the need to pay attention, let alone pass comment, about what someone else is or isn't eating.

worraliberty Sun 11-Sep-11 18:35:35

I don't see why it bothered you to be honest.

I often find servings are far too big for me. Sometimes I decide to mention it to the person I'm sitting with and sometimes I don't.

<shrugs>

MrsGaff Sun 11-Sep-11 18:36:16

YANBU - and I'll bet she didn't offer any of her food to the other women at the table, just the men.

Olifin Sun 11-Sep-11 18:36:17

Having said that, my mum eats like a bird and always has. She's not paranoid about her weight, she's just got a tiny appetite. She really hates leaving lots of stuff on the plate as I think she feels it draws attention to the fact she doesn't eat much and she hates the thought that she is wasting food. She can get a bit anxious if she's served a big portion in public and might pass some of the food to my Dad but I don't think she'd draw attention to it.

planetpotty Sun 11-Sep-11 18:36:31

Ha ha my step mum does this and me and DH kick each other under the table as she shovels her food to others on say the starter won't order a main and then proceeds to eat my dads after telling him what to order grin grin soo funny but also it is irritating just order - eat - leave what you don't want woman!!

forrestgump Sun 11-Sep-11 18:36:57

I suspect she went for the alcohol on offer, and had massive munchies at bed time!!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sun 11-Sep-11 18:38:07

YANBU...It's just attention-seeking. Nobody's watching your plate and nobody cares... why bother drawing attention to what you eat. Everybody sees it for what it is silly - that the person is so needy as to draw other people in.

I think it's really very rude to just shove stuff on other people's plates. Leave it on your own for goodness sakes! hmm

eurochick Sun 11-Sep-11 18:38:33

It's very unsexy apparently (as well as annoying). Men like women with an appetite. So I'm told. Or perhaps they say that because I eat like a hungry horse.

proudfoot Sun 11-Sep-11 18:38:48

YANBU

I don't care what and how much others eat but I do find it annoying when they go on about it, try to brag about not eating a lot, go on and on about picking the LIGHT and HEALTHY option hmm
