AIBU?

To hate the cliquey vomit-inducing threads on MN?

HamsterzBollox · 08/09/2011 10:46

Because they put me right off the whole of MN Sad.

Maybe it's because I don't generally use MN for 'chatting'; more for getting advice and opinions on parenting issues, health issues, etc (have namechanged btw as am a longstanding and cowardly MNer). But I do click on 'most active' when I come on here to see what's going on, and the clique arse-kissing and 'in' jokes between some MNers make me cringe and really put me off the site. It's like the school playground mum cliques but worse - because at least there the people really do know each other.

And yes I know threads about a thread are against MN rules blah blah but I wanted to moan about and am happy to be slated for doing so - so there Grin

I just think some MNers should get over themselves and go off and start a new 'love-in' site somewhere else. The End.

So you dislike people chatting to people they've got to know?

Agree. It makes my teeth ache.

Yanbu it is a bit cringey but I ignore those threads so am not really fussed. You will get everyone coming to tell to f off and go to nethuns etc etc though.

Ah, bitter cos you're not in the clique?

I'm bit either just kidding but It doesn't bother me at all, I look at mumsnet as just another social setting, you will get lots of friendships groups and cliques developing but hey, that's life.

You also get lots of good practical advice so everyone gets something.

YANBU it's shit and really spoils mumsnet. The ones I hate are the ones where someone posts an OP and the rest goes like this:

"can anyone recommend a car that's cheap on insurance and petrol?"

"Corsa?"
"Picanto?"
"oo my wolef loves corsas!"
"My wolef might like a corsa too"
"and a sandwich?"
"and a cup of tea and a gregs sausage roll"
"can we wear our wolef coats whilst in gregs?"
"yes and can I kiss your arse at the same time?"
"yes please do! and you can kiss my wolef's hairy arse too"
"what was the op about again?"
"dunno, something about wolefs in Corsas."

Before you know it the thread has been taken over by mumsnet royalty and the OP is forgotten. Its bloody boring.

And of course the "AIBU to want to shag Reality in the ear?" threads.

They don't bother me, I think it happens everywhere, even on the dreaded Facebook. However, its a shame when that takes over a thread and "newer" posters are ignored.

Yes, it's awful when people who know each other chat to each other and share jokes, isn't it. And even more awful when some of the people on a massive website use it a bit differently from you.

Pagwatch · 08/09/2011 10:52

I can see why it is irritating but I like coming on here and seeing people I recognise. It's only like walking into the pub and noticing the faces you know at the bar. It doesn't mean you don't want to meet anyone else.

Besides if recognising people isn't part of the mn 'community' thing then why even visit the same site regularly. Why not just google topics of conversation and go on which ever site is talking about that?

I think if you onky talk to names you know then that is daft. But interacting with other names you know is human nature isn't it? My ds doesn't care what sites he is on because he is autistic - no need to empathise or interact. I would rather chat and wave.

Besides. Unless it is banned for some reason I am not sure I give a shit if my use of the site annoys anyone else.

Which threads are you talking about? The ones like the Thread Killers and the Wolefs; or general threads which "descend" into people chatting to each other?

YANBU i agree i am quite new to mn and i just see the petty bitchiness and think these are grown women. one person makes a comment someone doesn't agree with and they all jump like a pack of hyenas.
sad really puts me off wanting to post or even bother, after the netmums thread the other day i really couldn't be bothered to come on for a few days. i really don't see the big deal its another site full of mums and they really don't careless about MN.

Thread go off on a tangent, it's what happens. And MN has always (IME) had silly in jokes, some involve more people than others is all.

Plus, you know the "cliques" aren't password protected right? You can join in, it's entirely your choice, so it's silly to then complain they wont let you in. You don;t need an invitation.

The wolef one was just an example. I have nothing against wolefs, I just get pissed off when an entire thread descends into shit constant in-jokes.

CalatalieSisters Terrible, absolutely terrible. Everyone knows you aren't allowed to make friends on here.

Sometimes it bugs me, but sometimes they're the threads that really cheer me up, they can be VERY funny.

Its very easy to simply close a thread you don't like and move on.
