I have just returned home from a Boden clothes party where I drank Prosecco and talked about house prices!

Am I middle class? How can I be sure? What else would mark me out as middle class?

Do I need more than one sort of houmous in my fridge at all times?

Did you measure the distance between your best local school and your house before your dc started? Did you move to be closest to the best school?

Dragonwoman Tue 06-Sep-11 22:07:55

Yep you're middle class! There's no way back from a Boden clothes party!

PhylisStein Tue 06-Sep-11 22:08:13

OMG - NO I didn't!

fourkids Tue 06-Sep-11 22:09:02

you mustn't have those earrings which you can jump a chihuahua through - as one MNer once said and I've been dying to repeat ever since! smile

PhylisStein Tue 06-Sep-11 22:09:59

The Boden was 20 percent off though!

What "class" does one fall into if one attends an ann summers party and whilst playing the name a rude word from a to z shouts out JIZZUM for J??? Is one lower class? Should one flog ones whippet and hope t'child is back from t'mill with 3 and 6 soon?

magicmelons Tue 06-Sep-11 22:11:13

When I saw the boden party thing i thought who the hell would do that? I got a 20% discount code today, no presseco though sad

PhylisStein Tue 06-Sep-11 22:11:13

I have some discreet pearl earings - are they better?

RedOnion Tue 06-Sep-11 22:11:15

Those earrings are well spensive hun. Innit. Lol xx

RedOnion Tue 06-Sep-11 22:11:39

Phylis - do you have the matching pearl necklace? <sniggers>

yellowsubmarine41 Tue 06-Sep-11 22:11:50

Just knowing that the phrase 'The Boden was 20 percent off' demands an exclamation mark has a definitely air of middle-classness.

magicmelons Tue 06-Sep-11 22:12:10

prosecco even.

PhylisStein Tue 06-Sep-11 22:12:15

Red - one is definitely of the lower orders!

2cats2many Tue 06-Sep-11 22:13:20

Since when did large hoop earrings become middle class? Surely wearing Birkenstocks and being on first name terms with the staff at Waitrose is more of a giveaway?

fourkids Tue 06-Sep-11 22:13:32

RedOnion - LOL

RedOnion Tue 06-Sep-11 22:13:39

One is offended. One hopes there is a dribble more Hock left in the bottle that I stole from Aldi.

cottonreels Tue 06-Sep-11 22:14:03

You'll need to stick your little finger out when you hold anything in your hands.

magicmelons Tue 06-Sep-11 22:14:21

May i ask about the host? Who the hell were they and why would you offer to throw a party for randoms? Apart from automatically catapulting yourself to Queen of the middle class mummies ( and free clothes)

RedOnion Tue 06-Sep-11 22:14:31

Sorry - in the bottle that I made my 17 month old steal from Aldi. She doesn't get asked for ID as she has got big earrings and a tattoo. Erm, innit.

PhylisStein Tue 06-Sep-11 22:14:36

I do know all the staff at my local Waitrose - it is so reassuring to have one's fevered brow soothed by the John Lewis Partnership!

fourkids Tue 06-Sep-11 22:14:58

2cats2many - since never...one must have the pearl variety. necklace is optional...

nothingoldcanstay Tue 06-Sep-11 22:15:02

If you are in any way thinking about being middle class then I expect you are. I'd aim higher.

RedOnion Tue 06-Sep-11 22:16:06

John Lewis himself soothes my brow....yeah biatches grin
