I'm sure that there is an official reason why we don't have this but I can tell you from personal experience of belonging to a different (non-parenting) forum that it is BEYOND depressing to have these.

You start what YOU think is a fab thread and then see that 78 people have opened it but not one bugger has posted.

Much better to think that's it's got lost somewhere on active, no?!

I wish there was (and perhaps there already is) a way to mark or find the last post I looked at on a thread, so I didn't have to guess what page and search later on.

Some threads move so fast, by the time I get back to them there are pages and pages of replies and I can't remember which page I last looked at.

Even numbers on the posts would help.

Is there a way to find the last read/first unread reply? Please tell me there is and I've been too thick unable to find it up until now.
