I dislike the ones that say they will not refund refund for items lost in the post and that they get proof of posting they will send to you for YOU to sort out

I think people who say arsey things have probably been stung by scamming buyers.

Unfortunately quite a few people say the item they bought was "lost in the post" and ask for a refund when you know darn well that they've received it. This has happened to a few people I know.

And also it's very irritating when you have to ask people again and again if they'll pay up.

YABU. Some people put the require immediate payment thing because so many people fanny about not making payments for ages. I think thats fairly reasonable if its a buy it now/paypal situation. Particularly for people who have a business to run. It never bothers me, why would it?

Slightly different but we went to an antiques fair last weekend and one of the sellers had a sign up that said something along the lines of "I hunt for it, buy it, bring it home, clean it, repair it, fix it, store it, transport it, display it...so why should I accept any less for it? No bartering please."

Up to him but it seemed a little rude to me. Given that practically every other stallholder in the place was bartering away with potential customers it also seemed a little silly of him. That sign was the first thing I saw on his stall, and a tiny bit of me wanted to ask him if he would accept an offer on it but mostly it just put me off looking at his stuff.

So I think I know what you mean. It's all in the wording. Some of the stall holders would say things like "I couldn't take any less than X amount" or people were asking "Could you do it for £15?...No...how about £17?" and everyone was happy with that kind of barter.

Maybe your ebay sellers would be better to say "X would appreciate immediate payments" rather than "requires immediate payments."

What on earth is wrong with asking for immediate payment? If you haven't got the money to pay don't click 'Buy It Now' fgs. Do you also expect shops on the high street to keep hold of things for you with no deposit while you faff about for a few days before paying up?

and I am doing a lot of shopping at once, so I want to get it all done and then pay in one go - when dh gets home with the right card - rather than having to sit and trawl through it all twice because some knobber wants paying NOW

Last time I listed I think there was a box to tick saying "request immediate payment" (so people don't win and then take weeks to pay you, when the reason you put the thing on ebay was to get it out of your bloody house).

So it might not be them writing it in such a harsh way...

We do teh require immediate payment becuase of teh sheer number of people who buy it now then absolutely refuse to pay.

OTOH we also stick to all teh distance trader regs and refund when requested and you would not go into a shop and say I'm having this but will pay at some time over the next few weeks, shove it under the counter.

And yes Ebay do the phrasing: they are buggers for harsh phrasing so they are. Like the ones you get where the buyer is just asking what date to be in so tehy can stay in for aprcelforce and Ebay send with the standard header WHERE IS MY APRCEL

i am a seller on e bay and at the moment i have 3 non payers from 3 weeks ago, a guy who asked for my details for pick up of a heavy item has since dissapeared since i sent him the details, one who left a great big fat neg cos he didnt read the descrpition as there was a chip on the base (said in listing there was) and didnt get in touch before leaving the neg, uk buyers who have left glowing feedback and 1s and 2s on the stars this could kill my account stone dead with no come back as its anonimous, and these are all uk buyers,

everyone wants everything for nothing prices and less than stamp price postage without accounting for bubble wrap which costs me money, fees for selling so yes there are some dickhead sellers on e bay or maybe they are fed up of dickhead buyers who are certainly coming out of the woodwork since sellers cant even say who are the dickhead buyers anymore,

e bay is getting harder for sellers but i sell antiques and e bay does give me a worldwide selling base i wish all my buyers were worldwide as uk generally are low price buyers and whingers

If someone pays recoorded we are allowed by royal mail to sort the claim, but RM require the receidvinga ddress to do the sorting / complaint (or otehr way round ) if it's PoP

So whilst we will help a PoP claim as best we can Royal Mail rather tie our hands on that one.

We are finding also we get more and more overseas buyers, we sell disco / stage event lighting and whilst the majority of our customers are excellent now it took a long time to find a system that worked well for everybody.

immediate payment is required for some BIN (buy it now) as they have say 10 in stock otherwise 10 people could have clicked but not paid unfortunately ebay is stacked in buyers favour andd if you sell people say stuff arrived broken when in double bubble wrap polystrene beads a an extra strong cardboard box, some say it did not arrive even when tracking says it was signed for they say it was a neighbour, EX or something and then it gets hard
ebay considers anything less than 5 stars as rubbish if your seller stars go below 4.7/4.8 they go mad

postage if another one ebay says buyers like free postage well of course they do but we all know its part of price and you could not start at 99p so you have to pay insertion fee and 10% commission on selling price so if sell at £10 you give £1 to ebay and 54p to paypal but if you sell for £6 with £4 postage you pay 60p to ebay and 54p to paypal ( as paypal charge 3.4% +20p omn every sale, so with postage separate you save 40p but as ebay sees it if you gave free postage they would make extra 40p profit

but that said have sold about 100 items and i think 5 have been bad experiences and have made some money and got some bargains

ebay do not do tactful in any message but overall ebay is a good source

i send all uk recorded delivery now and dont get any wheres me parcel, worldwide if cheap i take the risk and send non signed for probably get about 2% who say it hasnt turned up and probably a third of those do turn up so dont end up refunding due to airport strikes and customs delays usually,the rest i suck up and pay up

I actually get really fed up with the people who don't pay for days, don't contact you despite you sending them loads of reminders - I've had about 7 non-payers (for really pissy amounts like £3.50) since I started ebaying this year - I had to open cases against them and never heard from them at all.

We can't issey, some desks are just too big to send. We are using parcelforce now with excellent results, esp. over DHL.

When I sold new designer items on ebay, other sellers selling the same item would get their friends to "buy" my items, never intending to pay for them, so that they could sell their items.

I discovered this when paypal did there investigation.

There are lots of dickhead sellers and buyers and lots of good ones.

peachy yes your stuff is big so different requirements i only send small stuff abroad as theres a 2kg limit on postage and yes parcelforce are better than DHL they manged to smash two clocks i sent via them despite packaging them to death and i wont use DHL ever again but royal mail or parcelforce have always managed to get stuff there in one piece with only one exception and was probably my fault for putting too many china items in one box on hindsight would have sent in two boxes

I always use immediate payment when I have a Buy It Now listed. It also means that I don't get fucked over by those with 2 non payment strikes. I also have preferences if you don't have a PayPal account you can't buy from me either.

Generally payment should be made within 3 days, most buyers pay within an hour, or the same day as it should be.

You can ignore the sellers who put not responsible for lost in post as you are fully protected via eBay/PayPal and it is quite fun to open a dispute against those who do not follow eBays rules.

agree with fabby the sellers who put they are not responsible for losses in the post have got it wrong they are responsible for it, sometimes new sellers have seen this on someone elses listing and thought that is what they should do but no if i send someone something and it does get lost i refund in full after a resonable time, 5 days uk 2 weeks abroad a shame when something over 100 years old gets lost but thats life and if a buyer says they havent received an item in say australia i cant exactly go there and call them a liar so i have to beleive them, then just quietly put them on my blocked bidder list
