Oh fuckity. Wedding planned, booked, paid for etc. Just found out I am 4 weeks with pfb (highly unplanned) so due 2 months before wedding which is June next year.

Would I be very unwise to go ahead with wedding or does 2 months sound an ok time to 'recover'? My dress is ordered in a size ten how in the bleedin Nora am i going to fit into it?
Please tell me your magical-baby-weight loss stories :o

I didn't gain a lot of weight with my pregnancy, and got married when DD was 5 weeks old. I had to buy a size 14 dress and am normally a 10/12, it also had to have buttons down the front for easy access breastfeeding! Although by 2 months old you could express and bottle feed if necessary (you will need to feed/express regularly though even on your wedding day to maintain supply).

I would say unless you have a lot of support (so you can get to the gym) or are extremely motivated you may struggle to get back to a 10 after the birth. Just your post-birth boobs may get in the way of you fitting into the dress you have ordered.

You will also need to make sure that you don't put on too much weight during the pregnancy, i.e. don't eat for two (they don't need an adult portion to be healthy), do lots of walking and swimming to stay fit.

Can you talk to the dress maker/fitter to discuss going up a size just in case?

I got married when my dc2 was 10 weeks old, it was great. I was a few pounds heavier ( i think maybe 10 or so) so possibky you will need to get the dress altered. I also had a gorgeous newborn to dress and wave around in photos - wouldnt change any of it :)

Congrats! It's difficult as everyone is different. I ballooned and was the size of a small county despite eating sensibly but quite a few of my friends just looked as if they had a small football stuffed up their jumper! From the back they didn't look pregnant at all.

In all honesty it took me a year to lose all the baby weight but I didn't have a target like a wedding to aim for, so I wasn't actively trying for the first few months.

They aren't going to start making your dress for ages yet. Perhaps think about asking them to change it to a size 12 or 14 at a push. They can always take it in a couple of weeks before but they can't let out a size 10 frock to make it a 12!

One magical baby-weight loss story coming up Grin

Became a complete couch potato and pigged out during pregnancy. Within days of giving birth I was back in my much loved very old Levis and 2 weeks later I weighed half a stone less than when I first became pregnant.

If you're bfeeding it may be that your dress will need some alteration around the boob area. For everything else there's Spanx and/or a Rigby & Peller corset.

After the birth, practise good posture in front of a mirror. Stand slightly sideways on for the photos, and strategically place your bouquet to your best advantage.

Thanks so much for your reply-it's just nice to hear of someone getting married so close to giving birth.
I'm going to try and eat sensibly and run/crosstrain for as long as possible then maybe switch to swimming if that gets a bit much.
The dress has a lace up back so a wee bit of give there but I'm very aware that I can't control what my boobs do iyswim.

Failing everything I'm thinking extra strong spanx may be my new best friend come next june:o

Ahh that sounds lovely powered :o izzy that is just the kind of thing I need to hear and good tips for the dress buster. I'm going to get in touch with the dress shop next week and see what they say, it cost a fair whack (for me) and is so pretty I would be gutted if I couldn't fit into it. Thanks ladies you've made me feel loads better:)

I was back to work full time after five weeks. You be well recovered by two months.

Sorry you talking size! No reason why not just don't pig out during pregnancy.

Change your dress order to a size 12, it can be tailored to fit when the time comes. Discuss with dress maker and see what they suggest before changing order.
I was in my normal size 7 after a couple of weeks with my first, the last pregnancy I developed a sweet tooth and gained an extra 20 pounds, so I totally agree, do not pig out.

With my 2nd pregnancy I lost all my weight after about a month. In fact I weighed less than I did before I got pregnant. The trick is not to gain much weight during pregnancy, I controlled my diet as I didn't want a very big baby [he weighed 7.5 pounds and very healthy]. I agree about your dress, it is probably better to wait and see before having it made.

I was back in size 10 jeans a week after DC1 was born.

Don't overeat during pregnancy.
Keep active.
Breastfeed.

IF you are bigger after 2 months after the birth it's not the end of the world if you have to get a bigger dress!

Congratulations!

You didnt want a big baby ShockI think that is the most stupid thing I have ever read on MN

CadleCrap · 04/09/2011 08:48

fatlazymummy Shock I have never heard of controling your weight to control baby's weight!

I was in my skinny jeasn (which I hadn't worn for years) 2 weeks afetr giving birth.

Agree, with the others, keep active, eat sensibly - but also remember that being pg is a special time and if you want that bar of chocolate then have it - just don't have 2!! Grin

Fatlazymummy do you mean controlled diet as in healthy or controlled as in less calories? If its the latter then you were risking your baby's health! reallydisturbed by what you've just said.

Fat lazymummy, that is THE most idiotic thing I have ever read on MN! Are you posh spice? Wierdo. Controlling your diet does not make your baby tiny, so you have a neat bump-otherwise every baby born in poorer countries would be 3lbs or less. Twit.

I gained 3 stone in pregnancy and dropped two in the first two weeks (some of that was obviously baby and water) but then I was ill so I don't recommend it. Theoretically you should only gain the weight of the baby and you only need to eat extra a few extra calories later on in the pregnancy, so if you play it right you should be able to get back into size 10 after two months, at least all of you except your boobs will! Might be a good idea to have a back up dress on standby just in case.

Physiologically and on an evolutionary basis a womans body needs to hold on to about 7 extra pounds after pregnancy to support a breastfeeding relationship. So if it is at all possible to alter the dress order to one size bigger I would certainly do so. Getting back to a pre pregnancy weight in two months is possible but will be the hardest work you've ever done I expect! Your shape will be very different even if the weight itself is the same, and this all assumes you have a perfect pregnancy and delivery. But despite all that I wouldn't cancel, even if you know after the delivery you won't be able to wear that particular dress there will always be a way round it, you'll find something lovely and will be marrying the man you love, the father of your child. It'll be fine :)

fatlazymummy The only thing that will make your baby bigger is if you develop diabetes. Please don't do that if you have any more pregnancies, you risk both your babies health and your own. Hopefully you are referring to over eating, and ate the proper amount of calories for a pregnant woman.

Let's not hi-jack owllover's happy wedding and baby thread.

My guess is that your age can be also a factor. I am 35 it took me 6 months to get back into my pre baby clothes. Also if you breastfeed, I can only assume that your breasts will be bigger and may not quite fit in the dress IYSWIM.
I think you'd put yourself under a lot of pressure to get back into a size 10 2 months after birth. Can you change the order to a size 12 maybe?

Hi-jack away ladies, i'm busy fainting at the prospect of two babies being in there Shock

I'm swithering between thinking all will be fine and the thought that i might put on 5 stone. Though i walk everywhere, play football, go to gym etc so i think if i keep some of that up i shouldn't get massive.

As many of you have pointed out though-it's not the end of the world if i don't fit into my ordered dress, i can always pick up something of the shelf from monsoon etc.

Thanks for saving my sanity and i'm crossing my fingers for a good outcome at 12 wk scan, even though it's ages away, because i have drunk like a fish til 4 weeks but that's a whole other thread

x

I thunk your chances of being back to a size 10 7-9 weeks after a birth are pretty slim, if you'll excuse the pun, especially the breasts if you're bf. Depends how tight the dress is of course.
It's not theoretically impossible, but it may not be possible for you (although staying off the Magnums and chocolate cake during pg may help).
Best of luck with everything.

I would say if this is your first then you don't know how your pregnancy will go weight wise. Having had 2 DCS and putting on 3 stone with each, it took me 9 months to lose the weight again each time so I wouldn't personally take the risk. I would also say that the stress of organising a wedding and looking after a newborn might get a bit much- they are both such special times and IMO deserve undivided attention separately. I was at a wedding last night where the bride had twins 6 weeks ago- like you the wedding was booked before she got pregnant. I noticed that she seemed quite stressed and tired and didn't smile much, I really felt for her.

Oh, cross posted. I think your approach is extremely sensible then, yes Monsoon will sell you a perfectly fine dress and no-one will care once it's accessorised with baby sick your gorgeous newborn.
