I was pretty annoyes when I found out Harry Potter World was being made in America, on my children's behald obvioulsy, ahem. Am also annoyed that so many books set in the UK are made into American films, was really looking forward to 'I don;t know how she does it' coming out, only to watch the trailer and see it's set in the US. Same goes for Roald Dahl's 'Matilda'. Can't think of any other but am sure there are loads!

I'm sure the Potter films would have been set in the US, had Rowlings not exerted authorial control.

YANBU. Harry Potter World should be in the UK. I like the films though.

YANBU, I'm so cross that such a British thing isn't based here. I know the films were to be transposed across the pond until JKR put her foot down. Harry Potter was supposed to be played by Haley Joel Osment and everything...

I don't think us Brits are very good at that sort of thing, and reckon that if Harry Potter World was over here it would probably be pretty crap because no one would want to finance it... Plus our weather is to unpredictable!

I bet it would be a lot better with a million times more character!

yabu. Rather bizarrely unreasonable. It depends where the money is.

Secret dreamworld of a Shopoholic - Set in London in the book.
Hi Fidelity - likewise, but I do have a bit of a softspot for John Cusack.
Not just matilda, but the Witches and Charlie & the chocolate factory twice for Roald Dahl.

Drives me potty too, there's no reason for it, and the stories often lose a lot in the translation.

Unnecessarily Americanised books are worse though.

Oh good gracious, tell me there's not a Peppa Pig Land! I don't understand the appeal of that creature!

It's because it's part of an established theme park. If we had a theme park owned by universal studios them I'm sure there would be one here too!

Haley Joel Osment was going to be Harry Potter. Shock

Suddenly Daniel Radcliffe doesn't seem so bad!!!

Only as a voiceover in a cartoon version by Speilberg though.

I think I'm more bothered about the sum total of cartoon, Americanised and sorcerer's stone than one putative cast member!

I Dont Know How She Does It by Alison Pearson was set in London too but the new film version is set in New York which is the same thing that happened to Shopaholic.

It is, but the fact that in the later shopaholic books they decamp to the states and make an issue of going to New York is ruined by the transplant.

I wish they'd just leave things alone!

YANBU. HP world should be in uk. It's a British success story should stay here!! At least we will have leavesdon studios to look round here. That's my only comfort. Only a few months till I can book. Hey!

Oh good Lord, yes, new respect for Daniel Radcliffe! He's not a great actor by any means, but he's better than HJO! Shock

OP, YANBU. Matilda was the one that really pissed me off. I actually happen to think the film was decent, but definitely lost something being American. It should have been British.

Perhaps if the UK had the giant film production companies and the money the US companies have, perhaps these films would be made here. The UK just doesn't have the infrastructure, sorry.
