to feel a teeny bit triumphant?

My uber-organised neighbour runs her life with military precision and makes my chaotic existance seem pretty desperate. However, for the first time ever I opened my DC's curtains this morning at 8am (they'd been up for 2 hours, I'd only just got round to it) their DC's were still shut grin. I have never opened my curtains to anything other than hers opened and windows open to air. Never. In fact by 8am they've probably all done a yoga class and are enjoying the papers in a stylish coffe shop while their DC quietly read classic literature.

Or maybe she's taken it to a new level and her DC sleep late on weekends envy

Have her dc merged into the teen years yet?!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sat 03-Sep-11 13:09:35

Stop peering through windows, OP, have your own fabulous life instead of pondering hers. grin

cantspel Sat 03-Sep-11 13:09:54

yabu

there could be any number of reasons why the curtains are shut

TheOriginalFAB Sat 03-Sep-11 13:11:39

Do people really care about curtain opening one upmanship? confused

sjuperwolef Sat 03-Sep-11 13:13:39

she'll be extra vigilint from now on after seeing yours open before hers i bet she'll scurry past you in the street with shame grin

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:13:46

You're right LyingWitch, of course. She's such a lovely woman I can't even bring myself to be irritated by her. I wish she'd share her secret though. I didn't think it was humaa classes and activities into a week. And she does the odd triathlon too. I get so exhausted just living over the road from her that I can't manage to run for a bus grin

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:14:33

*humanly possible to fit so many classes hmm

cantspel Sat 03-Sep-11 13:14:50

Do people notice other peoples curtains?

Maybe op lives oposite me as my curtains are still closed when usually they are open by 7 but as my dad died yesterday i cant really be arsed to worry about curtains.

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:15:37

Not really FAB, but it's quietly amused me/made me feel deeply inadequate for years now.

PonceyMcPonce Sat 03-Sep-11 13:16:20

They are probably making the most of the last weekend before school on some lovely cultural weekend away wink

KaFayOLay Sat 03-Sep-11 13:17:14

My neighbours curtains weren't open one morning by a time she is usually up and about.

I went over to check on her.
She'd had a stroke, she was only 40 sad.

She is eternally grateful for me and my spare key smile.

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:17:44

cantspel I'm so sorry for your loss sad

ChippingIn Sat 03-Sep-11 13:18:17

cantspel - I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad x

Decapitated - my first thought was 'Oh my god, I wonder if something awful has happened' (as per cantspels' post) but then I thought that I was being a drama queen... maybe not. Maybe pop over later to see if they're ok??

However, I can appreciate your small moment of triumph grin

mistressploppy Sat 03-Sep-11 13:18:57

grin this made me chuckle - I feel just like you, OP! Also giggling at the DC and their classic literature....

cantspel Sat 03-Sep-11 13:19:44

Thankyou

mistressploppy Sat 03-Sep-11 13:20:11

So sorry Cantspel sad

ChippingIn Sat 03-Sep-11 13:21:41

Everything that happens to you in life becomes part of you - I guess it makes me sad that I think of the worst thing first a lot of the time - so the first thing I'd think would be 'OMG I hope everything is OK' not 'He he he I've beaten her for once grin' but if other people haven't had the same experiences and think of the He he he first - I think it's great - you are lucky to be more carefree.

A neighbour saved my friends Dad's life last year when she noticed his curtains weren't open when they would normally have been. She called my friend and I took her to his house, if we had been any later he would have died sad

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:23:23

Everything is ok I think because curtains were opened, windows opened and washing out by the time we left the house at 9.30am. I only wish I could have been nonchalantly pegging mine out when she eventually opened them grin

DecapitatedLegoman Sat 03-Sep-11 13:25:17

I am sorry to be flippant cantspel. Would you like to talk about your dad?flippant cantspel. Would you like to talk about your dad?

So sorry cantspel.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy Sat 03-Sep-11 13:33:56

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your df, cantspel. There'll be a lot of things you'll find you can't be arsed to care about for some considerable time to come. Be kind to yourself and don't fret about the small stuff.
