I am definitely stressing out, I have the spare room to tackle which is absolutely AWFUL.

There are currently two beds which are put up, and one which is dismantled.

There is rubbish/clothes/bits of paper etc. everywhere, and I am just at an absolute loss of where to start!

Any tips would be much appreciated, I am so not looking forward to sorting this horrendous mess out.

Also, any advice on how to revive a horrible looking carpet would be great, we don't currently have the money to re-carpet the room but I would like it to look presentable.

Don't attempt to do it all at once.
Get three boxes / bags - one to 'keep', one for rubbish & one for 'not sure'.

For carpet try bicarb of soda on any stains. If it's really bad carpet cleaners are usually around £25 to hire.

Bin bag first and get rid of rubbish. Bag for clothes that don't fit etc

Clean carpet with a hire cleaner and then buy a big rug to cover the messy bits.

New bedding. New curtains. Vase of flowers. Guests. Job done grin

If you really want to tackle it there is really only one way to do it. Take everything out onto landing/other bedrooms.
You have the choice of
-throwing it out
-giving it away/freecycling it
-finding a home for it somewhere else in the house
-putting it back in the spare room
But, only put back what you really need to keep. As for the carpet, you can clean it or buy a big rug from somewhere like Lidl, or Poundstretcher for the same price as a carpet cleaner.

After you fill the bag of "this might come in handy one day/I don't want to throw this out/I am sure the other half of this piece of crap useful object is in the house somewhere and one day we will need it" then tie the top up, and bin that one too - you don't need any of it!! (Think of me as one milimetre off being Mrs. Trebus here... sighhhhhh)
