To buy DS and DD bags for school/pre school that are not branded!!

I bought dd this to put her lunch box in and this for DS3 for his first pre school bag to put a chnage of clothes in. DH said that dd would have preferred Hello Kitty but I have a real aversion to logo/branded stuff.

AIBU to buy what I like???

I would say not but then peer pressure plays a part with kids.

I offered ds who is going into primary school a choice between cars lunch box and a plain one. He chose the plain one. I had seen a grufalo pencil case - he loves the grufalo - but it was £8!! So he got a plain blue one from asda!

Gorgeous bags- DD has one :)
However, I will say this....you say I have a real aversion to logo /branded stuff ....hmmm isn't Skip-Hop a trendy designer brand??

they are lovely but not 'plain' or 'unbranded'

They are gorgeous - but to me much more designer than the hello kitty you have eschewed

I wanted that owl one for dd for preschool. She insisted that she was having the Charlie and Lola one which was half the cost. Not worth the battle! Sigh.

How dare you send your kids to school in supermarket tack....

Only joking, the only branded stuff my 16yo ever has is either a) in the sale b) a much wanted football/rugby shirt as a xmas or bday gift or sports gear from Soccer World....

the 12yo prefers Matalan and asda as he has a skinny waste and long legs and thats the only place that seems to do clothes to fit him....

and anyway how else would I afford my Radley Handbag to fit in with all the playground mums? lol

I think they are gorgeous bags/lunch-boxes!

I do think just sometimes its OK to buy branded ,if the child seems over concerned ...children can be a bit strange sometimes sometimes a branded item can make them feel part of the pack.

I haven't forgiven my Mum for refusing to buy me those nylon socks with cartoon characters on the size ...in about 1976 ,I think that was Grin

They are a bit too twee for my taste and far more than i would pay for a primary school aged childs school bag.

My boys are now teenagers and love the £16.99 rucksacks from route one.
Bargin and last even with them kicking them around.

Yabu, you have bought a branded bag, ok so it doesn't have a cartoon character on it but it still has a brand logo on it.

Up to you what you buy for your dc but tbh I would get what my dd wanted within reason/price.
The peer pressure will soon start and children generally want what their friends have not what their mums want.

I cant believe some of the prices on that site.

Who is daft enough to pay a tenner for a kids drinking bottle when you can get one in wilkos for a couple of ££?

I think YABU OP, sorry. If you were denying your DCs their choice because it was too expensive or impractical fair enough but I think you're just being snobby (and a bit of a show off to the other school mums perhaps?). The bags are sweet but it didn't surprise me that they're from a site that also specialises in wooden toys - i.e. toys that parents want their children to like rather than what children actually like.

:( I really like those wooden bikes. Was looking forward to DS being old enough to ride one............do they not like them?

I just let mine chose what they want as long as it's not too expensive, after all it's their bag, not mine. I wouldn't call those bags unbranded either.

I expected to see some unbranded, affordable bags but these are more expensive than the Hello Kitty ones and are branded. The difference is that they are a brand you have chosen, rather than one your child wanted.

Is this that boasting by stealth I have heard tales of?

Golly, this is such an important topic, I will have to think long and hard where I stand on this one.

Catgirl i'm a break it to you now kid, you know all that lovely wooden arty

stimulating stuff you have for baby cat, well as soon as he can show any

free will at all, he will fuck it in a corner overlook it for all the neon plastic

shite stuff.

Ah well at least baby cat probably won't like 'My Little bastardfucking Pony.Grin

I wouldnt pay that for a bag - they look very small too. I let my kids choose their own bags so ds has a super mario one (cost about £10) and dd has a black and pink one from WH Smith (also fairly cheap)

catgirl DD has a wooden balance bike (got it a gift from family) and she loves it. She's 2.7. I see lots of kids up to about 4 who race on them in our park- and they definitely look like they're enjoying it!

Sorry for Hi-Jack Posie. Love the bags, i hate branded as well, but assume

peer pressure will hit once dd starts school.
