To buy a second hand fur coat?

I have never worn fur, always faux fur but have found a coat I love on ebay and just realised it is real fur... I don't know if I could bring myself to wear it TBH, but if I could would it be unreasonable??

I don't like fake or real fur, the whole idea of wearing fur as a statement of wealth is wholey disgusting.

Don't be daft!

Aside from it being on very shaky moral ground, The abuse you will get is not worth it...

Unless you actually live in russia/alaska/antarctica...

Yes. You may not be directly funding the disgraceful fur industry but by buying and wearing this thing you would be condoning it and contributing towards the normalisation of animal cruelty.

I don't wear fake fur as a statment of wealth, it is just really warm and soft.

A friend had a real fur coat and I found it quite macarbre

There's your answer then.

But fake fur is lending credence to the idea that real fur is acceptable - to me anyway.

If you find it macabre why would you consider buying one?

The choice is entirely yours.

I have a fur coat. No one has ever given me grief about it.

I don't know much about the topic but from what I gather it's quite cruel so on second thoughts I will not be buying the coat.

I have always wondered how it's cruel to kill and animal for it's fur and not it's meat... Wearing something because it feels/looks good or eating something because it tastes good...??

I love fur, I think it does get cold enough in the uk (I live very very north) I would always go for faux as its good nowadays. But I do have a vintage that was passed down from my grandparents. I don't see to much of a problem if it's already there iyfwim

Some of us think both cruel and do neither, Duck. Wink

I dont see the problem if it's not new, to be honest. I've worn fur out (my grannys fur) and not got any abuse for it. It's quite hard to tell fake from real these days, and i know several shops have been fined for labelling real as fake.

Aren't all fur coats second hand?

I have mixed feelings on it.

I adore vintage, and had a wonderful conversation with an old lady once, who lived in Russia in the 30's and 40's, and she told me about her fur coats. Sad that she just couldn't wear them any more due to people's opinions, even though (back when she got them) they really were her only option.

Vintage fur, especially if handed down, doesn't financially benefit furriers. And it isn't as if you could give the animal it's life back.

Not sure I could buy it though.

Even if I couldn't turn down a hand me down.

I also don't buy into fake fur encouraging the sale of real fur. I love all my fake fur, it's lovely in Winter.

i dont know, possibly. You dont see a lot of them about.

Though actually, i was in milan a few years ago and saw a LOT so maybe it just depends on the country.

Ah, sorry, missed that.

I do know people who think that real fur coats aren't produced anymore. No idea why they think that.
