I can't see it on iplayer yet either, might take a while. I'll watch tomorrow.

I've had three surrogate children and it wasn't a breeze but have no regrets at all, it sounds like these women do have.

soo sad! I don't think I would ever become a surrogate using my own eggs - that would be like giving your own child away to be brought up by other parents and no different to adoption - I do admire women who feel able to do this for members of their own family perhaps but I doubt I would ever be able to do it no matter what

However I probably would be able emotionally to carry a baby which was not mine genetically - for a family member ...not a stranger

oddboots can i ask how old you were, whether you had finished having your children and if they used your egg? Please dont answer unless you feel ok about it

"Shannon is too young to be a surrogate in the UK; but in two weeks she will be 21, and she is already on the hunt for her ideal couple"

This really worries me. How can the poor girl be emotionally ready to do this for someone? She clearly has wider issues, seeking affection and attention?

CarnivalBizarre really interesting! I was wondering what I would do if say, my sister asked me to help her (she hasn't and I hope she won't have to) but I think before I had my own children I would have said yes, but now I am not sure I could.......which sounds so selfish..... :(

I was 22 when I got pregnant with my first surrogate baby, I had a child of my own then and had my daughter after. All three have been host surrogacy so not my own eggs, not so much for my own attachment reasons but for the sake of my extended family and because I have spina bifida and we're not sure to what extent that is genetic.

I don't think anyone under 25 should be allowed to do this.

I could surrogate for a family member, but not my own eggs.

for my sisters I would, for anyone else i doubt i could, maybe its because i know personally my family isnt complete. (not that i can have anymore)

lachesis my worry would be anything happening to me/you in pregnancy and god for bid, leaving behind our children. I know its so rare for anything major to go wrong......but....

dh was and is fine about it all. He's always been supportive about anything I want to do. He's there in my corner making sure I am never taken advantage of and he helped with all the practical stuff needed for IVF, pregnancy and postnatal.

I'm too old now, but excepting my sister, I can't have seen myself doing it at all.

I mean, the lochia alone would put me off.

To donate eggs or to be a host surrogate I can understand. To do both ie carry a child that is biologically yours and then hand the baby over must be take a serious emotional toll on the surrogate and is potentially fraught for the parents to be. If a women changes her mind and she is the biological mother then presumably she can keep the baby. And the women with fertility issues not only loses her child but has to deal with the fact that another woman has a child with her DH.

I think the problem with the programme for me, was the fact that the ladies having babies for others were quite needy.....that maybe unfair, but that was how it came across to me....
