AIBU?

to not buy anything new for DC#2

I'm only six weeks pregnant at the mo, but was having a think earlier of things I need to buy for DC#2. I couldnt think of anything except consumables!! If DC2 is a boy, I will even use DSs clothes as there is nothing wrong with them (and if a girl, a lot of it is white or unisex anyway!)
AIBU? Will DC2 hate me when he/she is older because they didnt have their own pram?
DS is only 10m so everything is still in perfect condition, I just think it would be so wasteful to buy new.
(PS, I also dont want a double buggy :))

yanbu.

DD wore DS's blue sleepy suits, gro-bags, vests and jeans.

We were given plenty of girls hand-me-downs so I didn't need to buy her any clothes, (although I did get a double buggy).

I think your DH will probably appreciate recycling your DS1's clothing etc. :-)

Er... YANBU! Baby won't care what it is wearing / sleeping in / being carried in!

I am having to pick up a few bits as gave away most of DS's stuff due to lack of storage, plus this will be a winter baby not summer baby, but I buy all my baby gear second hand anyway so makes no odds really.

I'm sure you will get a couple of special new bits anyway from friends/ family. Save your money in the meantime!

Dont worry
People will buy your dc2 stuff when they're born

YANBU. We hardly bought anything new for DD2, we are reusing most of DD1's clothes. DC2 is not going to care that his/her pram is 2nd hand.

But I did go out and buy one new outfit and some toys from an NCT sale (so 2nd hand but not hand-me-downs from DD2) because I wanted some of the excitement of buying for a new baby. And I wanted to make sure that in some of the photos she was wearing different outfits from DD1.

Thats what I thought, I'm sure I'll get six million impractical lovely outfits...
We dont even need a cot, DS will be two before the earliest DC2 would leave our room! Grin
though we may need to get a super kingsize bed as DS cosleeps often at the mo, and there DEF isnt room for four in the bed!!

YANBU - I certainly wouldn't buy a new pram (especially if you don't mean a double pushchair). In terms of clothes I managed to do a clothes swap where I swapped my DD's clothes for my friend's DS's. That was successful. I actually loved getting to use all my lovely baby things again with the second one. My DS now has a black and bright pink buggy that he inherited. He is nearly 18 months and doesn't care at all. He also uses pink sleeping bags etc. I have got him some stuff of his own (especially toys and books where my DD is sometimes overly possessive) but what is the point in wasting good baby things?

yanbu. I bought ds2 and ds3 a few new bits but that's because baby stuff is so cute and I'm weak. I bought a new double buggy for ds2 but that got used again for ds3. Apart from that ds2 has only had a few clothes and toys new and ds3 a bit less. Neither of them seem to hate me Grin

You dc won't care when he is older if he had nothing new as a baby. I think people often go way ott with the amount of baby stuff they get anyway. I would probably get a new cot mattress though. But the rest I'd just reuse.

sofa if it had been in storage I would, but DS will be sleeping on it til DC2 goes into their room, give or take a week. Plus its machine washable Grin

It's the main thing SIDS recommends. That's the only reason I personally would. Nothing to do with clean etc

Yanbu. I bought precisely one pack of Muslins for dc2. Just to make a john Lewis order up to £30 for free delivery. I was then given a big bag of Muslins. I needn't have bothered.

Well dd2 is due a week before dd1's birthday so two girls, exactly the same time of year. Poor dd2 might get some new vests, that's it!

I'm a second child and have no idea what baby hand me downs I had from my sister and don't care.

YANBU - we've bought very little for DS2.

Why no double? What are you going to do about transporting them around?

DS1 was 2.8 when DS2 was born and I just about got away with my buggy with a board attached or a sling for the baby.

Ooh mumswang I love muslins though. They are so multifunctional. I'm currently using them as comforters/dusters/oil cleansing cloths (see style and beauty, i'm a sucker for a new gimmick Blush

Obviously i keep these muslins seperate from DD's comforting muslins......

I am 36 weeks with dc2. I have bought some.... muslins. Grin

That's it.

I have a dd already and this time am having a ds but have enough unisex things that I will manage for about a year before I need to buy anything.

I've also bought some nipple cream and some maternity pads. That is the sum total of my pregnancy spending this time round.

I bought shitloads of muslins with DS and probably didnt use half of them! Doing a load of washing every day, I just washed the ones I'd just used!

Well I bought nothing new for dc1 so it wouldn't be fair! And he wore loads of pink hand-me-downs. I got given a buggy though which will be reused if I can turf dc1 out of it in the next six months...

However I lucked out with a very non-sicky baby last time so never saw the point in muslins, so sod's law means I'll probably need loads new for dc2!

Yanbu, though I did get a double buggy with dc2 and a new cot mattress. I did buy one new outfit for hospital but ds didn't seem to mind sleeping in dd's hand-me-down pink sleepsuits and growbags! I still find muslins all over the house, ds is 3.9. I think they breed Grin

DD is now 14. Still find plenty of use for muslins around the house.

DD looks great in DSs old Pjs and very cute in jeans/ combats and a pretty top! AS she's getting older I am buying more 'girl' stuff for her but she still wears loads of DS stuff. Already had a P&T so she did get a new back seat!

Beyond You are absolutely correct. Half of my vast muslin haul are silky soft and delightfully squishy having been washed approximately three thousand times and the sparkling white ones at the bottom of the drawer are crispy and crap and nobody wands to rub them across their face before they go to sleep!
