Yes you lot were right...

SIL managed to 'luckily' get us the caravan next door from them.....

Which men't her 6 kids (not the SN one) came over to our caravan or 'played out' and therefore we were responsable for them...

Dog stayed in front room with us and wanted a wee EVERYday at 5am It refused to go to bed woth MIL

MIL and Husband got home late EVERYNIGHT -and managed to sleep in just enough so we had to start cooked breakfasts ;)

Kids woke up at crack of dawn

SIL would send kids to our caravan every mornig as soon as they had eaten

Parents not putting swim nappies on their kids caused the pool to be closed repeatedly

also found shit piles in the 'kids club' room

thankfully not woken up with noisey MIL sex ... but there was a lot of you all go ahead and we will catch you up... ;)

After stinky dogs (wet from river) lay on my clothes i ~HAD to go to the lauderette _FOR 4 HOURS :) to get the smell out ;)

Made hubby take all the kids out for the day yesterday just so i could have some peace...

Of course MIL is suguesting we do it all again for easter!!!

Oh dear, hope you have a large stock of vodka handy to start recovery.

Sounds like a great holiday ;0) seriously, you have my sympathy, we are going on a full family holiday next year, we have decided
On a hotel rather than hire a villa for this very reason. At least in a hotel you can lock the door when you have had enough

Report
GypsyMoth · 22/08/2011 11:09

Why do you put up with that treatment? That's what I don't understand? Why?

Report
Scholes34 · 22/08/2011 11:15

You have to do it once to know why you should never do it again.

Why be a martyr? Confused

Op knew EXACTLY what was in store for her..... She posted the details.

Oh Dear God CoffeeDog - I do hope your DH is being suitably contrite and saying a big 'NO NO NO' to Easter.

Please tell me he helped you with all the kids / cooking etc when he realised how RIGHT you were.

(If he's not, he can go on his own next time)

AnyFucker · 22/08/2011 11:19

MN is always right

so, same thing next Easter, is it ?

I bet you do

Report
MajorB · 22/08/2011 11:23

Tell them that you're busy at Easter, you've decided to holiday in a shed for a week, whilst childminding for 10 kids, cooking, cleaning and dog walking, and surviving on no more than 4 hours sleep a night, because you need a REAL rest.Wink

Dozer · 22/08/2011 11:30

Glad you survived. But don't even contemplate doing it again, that would just be total masochism.

Katisha · 22/08/2011 11:32

DId DH think it was all marvellous?

Well, SIL is back to work, then...

I know, I'm a bitch. Sorry.

Why don't you write to the campsite and complain about the filthy conditions, and copy your MIL in on the letter? Venting your feelings could help.

Make sure you write in the letter that under no circumstances will you consider acceptable "compensation" of more of the same. "I would prefer to cut my eyes out." In your covering letter to MIL, you could add that she is welcome to any voucher, though.

ahahahaha

You really have to tell them all, however gently, that it just didn't work for you. Otherwise, there will be constant pressure to do it again, and your DH seems like the type who would give in. And I would be fairly straight with BIL and SIL that having to look after 6 of their children for most of every day is not really a 'holiday' for you. Even if you'd had your own caravan, being dogsbody/childminder to an entire extended family is not much of a break.

Report
Trifle · 22/08/2011 12:32

You did not have to have the dog in your caravan. Your choice to allow it. It's completely ridiculous to say it refused to stay in MIL's van.

You didnt have to do cooked breakfasts daily. Your choice to do it. No one forced you. Ridiculous.

SIL sent her kids to your caravan every morning. Why didnt you send them back.

Do you have the word 'victim' tattooed across your head because you play the part very well.

You knew what you were letting yourself in for and you got exactly what you expected.

I expect you'll do it again next year as you relish being a mug.

Bloody hell, pretty much as predicted then, but it could certainly have been worse - and you still have sufficient faculties about you to type it out :)

Report
Jackstini · 22/08/2011 13:50

Glad you are back in one piece without killing them all.
You have to answer 2 things though:
What did DH say? (hopefully "grovel, grovel, your were right all along CoffeeDog")
I am hoping you both PYSL when MIL asked to do it again and said NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Did you....?

RandomMess · 22/08/2011 13:56

You must let us know your Dh's comments on the holiday Grin

It was the same caravan, trifle. OP was in the sitting room. Same applies though. I'd have sent dog in to them - and certainly at 5am! Saying "your dog needs to go out I think."

Report
lachesis · 22/08/2011 14:05

I really don't get why you went in the first place, and then agreed to sleep on the sofa in the living room, cooked breakfasts and looked after the SIL's kids. You can only be a doormat if you lay down.

Glad to hear no murders were committed. Seriously, you have to tell DH that he may go to EasterFunPark but you will not.

MIL had the 2 dogs in out caravan she had the big bedroom - the lab followered her to bed the labradoodle thing (aka the horse) refused and would bark if she tried to drag it to the bedroom... so it slept in the kitchen floor.... as any more barking would wake the kids

I went just to see if it would be as bad as i / mumsnet thought it would be and YES you lot were right ;) and NO i will never be repeating the experiance again...ever

DH thought we had a wonderfull time..... then again he didnt have to explain to a bunch of chav's that allowing your kid to shit on the carpet in the under 5's room was NOT acceptable.. even if you are 'single' parents and the fact there is a loo 3mtrs away with babychange facilties also means that you dont need to change your babys stinky nappy on the table next to me.... oh and dont get me started on the poo in the pool or 'holiday shields' that people seem to get - serioulse i nearlly drove over hundreds of stupid people who would just walk in front of the car/or kids on bikes!!

Tell your DH now that if he agreees to Easter, that means he's agreeing to take the DCs without you, you will not be going anywhere near a caravan that contains your ILs ever again.
