AIBU?

Miss family too much when I am away, going soft in head?

Whenever I go on odd nights/weekends away visiting old friends I often find it quite hard to become my 'old self' again and relax. Sounds a bit odd I know when I am quite often dying for a break from all the demands of home, kids etc. but I have just spent a lovely weekend away visiting old friends but I woke up this morning in my friends house and missed my kids and husband SO much. Is this just me, can I not even do anything without them now? I feel like I am not really myself without them around and then that makes me feel like I have gone a bit soft in the head and I need a good talking to!

Why be a martyr to going away with friends?

If you're happier at home, can you not just go out for an evening with them?

It's not soft in the head..you're just being honest.

you never switch off from being a parent, when ever i get a break it don't switch off

We all live miles apart so meeting up in one of our home towns is what we do but I think I may just have to admit to myself that I miss my family too much sometimes to make it worth it! Suppose it didn't help that two friends had their own kids around

It was most probably the fact that your friends were cosily ensconced with their dcs that brought it home to you that you were alone and out on a limb, so to speak.

Maybe you should consider meeting up in a midway hotel/inn/b&b sans other family members?

yes that was suggested but one had a newborn that couldn't be left. Think next time it'll be just us mums. So much for me thinking I used to be miss independent, think I am just the opposite now!
