AIBU?

to go out because my guests are two hours late?

They have only just sent a text to say "we're on our way, just stopping for food first"?

DS is starving because we were supposed to be having lunch all together, DP is annoyed and suggesting we de-camp to MIL's house for the afternoon and tell our guests we have had to leave. I'm inclined to agree.

Opinions?

Yep! That's what I'd do but not before telling them they're out of order.

I have been sorely tempted to do this in the past, but have NOT doen so especially fi they have travelled...and ended up having a really fun afternoon, worth the wait tbh.

If its beyond thier control..traffic etc then be fair, if its just rudeness and a regular occurence...go out and fuck them.

i always want to do something like this but experience has taught me that the guilt i would feel if i went out wouldn't be worth it!

maybe they x wires about lunch, if it were me though i would be there like a shot, free lunch and all Wink

They're not usually this rude. They are a somewhat childish couple, but that's usually quite fun! But I don't think it's an excuse to let people down.

P.S. I'm not brilliant at hiding my annoyance with this kind of thing.

What was the plan?

Did they know you were all going to lunch together? It seems very rude if they did.

I would text back saying that you had been holding on for them before you had lunch but are now absolutely starving so you are going out to find something to eat.

That they leave home at 1pm and come here for lunch. It takes them about 20 minutes to get here from where they live, 30 if there's traffic.

Luckily we haven't done a hot lunch, because it's nice weather here.

Where do you live, Tidy? I can probably be there by 5pm; can you keep it hot?

Report
Nagoo · 21/08/2011 15:31

Have you eaten the lunch?

Cheeky feckers! I'd text them that you've gone out for food too NOW, since you've been waiting for them to turn up so you could ALL have lunch TOGETHER as was agreed, apparently.

It is NOT all right to do that to people, it's bloody rude.

I got no explanation as to why they are late. The plan was clear.

They won't be invited again unless they have a good reason. I will not waste the weekend sitting in waiting for rude people again.

If the agreed plan was for them to come around at 1pm for lunch together, then they're being really rude, especially with the 'stopping for food' bit, which is completely U on their part. However this makes me think their idea of the plans and yours aren't quite the same!

Why don't you phone them to see what they're playing at, then if you feel it's not just a case of crossed wires, make your excuses and go out?

x post. Better still, I like salad. Fancy a few prawns? I've got a nice avacado here

The stupid thing is, it was them who wanted to make the arrangement to come over.

We're going to go to MIL's I think.

Text them, cancel and go out.

Sorry, crossed posts! In that case YANBU to bugger off out! The bit about them getting food on the way would really piss me off if I was waiting for them to join my family for lunch!

Don't listen to Nagoo. I'll help you eat it.

Thumbwitch · 21/08/2011 15:34

If it only takes them 20 minutes to get to yours, why in FUCK are they stopping en route to get food?? How obnoxiously rude are they!!

Yes, go out.

You're all very nice. Thank you for replying to me!

I can't really be arsed to leave, but I don't really want to be here to play nice with them.

Grrr, this has really pissed me off.
