They can get married, leave home, get a full time job and have sexual intercourse amongst other things. So they can be pleasured by a real penis but not by a fake one? Bit arse about face isn't it?

Yes, and they also can't drink.

However I'm in favour of raising the age of all those things to 18 (apart from sex) rather than lowering anything.

Particularly now that education is now compulsory to 18.

It's sorta like, we know it's legal to have sex at 16 but we strongly discourage it.

I think it should all be raised to 21, especially voting.

That'll teach the bastards.

I have always found this extremely odd.

A 16/17 year old can have have sex, indeed consent to any sex act, but they can't passively watch others having sex on film, even fake sex.

They can get married but they can't take out a mortgage, a tenancy agreement, a loan or a credit card.

They can join the army, but they cannot vote for the government that makes the decisions about war.

Hmm

I know. We should just pick a bloody age at which someone is an adult and can
drive
have sex
marry
sign contracts
have a mortgage
have children
drink
etc etc

I mean, at the moment, like you say, you could have a girl with a child, married, and at school, unable to vote...

It's a mess.

I think there is something to be said for saying ok, you are an adult at 18 (I'd prefer 21! Most 18yr olds I come across are still very much children) and at that point, you can do all these things.

But then they wouldn't be able to move out until they were 21 ...

I was going into sex shops when I was seventeen- I know it for a fact because my very thoughtful gift to all my girlfriends on their 18th birthdays were rampant rabbits - the gift that keeps on giving!

But 16-17yos already know everything about everything and have their lives all sorted, what could they possibly learn or need from going into a sex shop? Wink Grin

Am only half-joking. Because I am sure that at age 16-17 I would have thought Sex Shops were only for losers who had forgotten how to do it properly.
