DN constantly have nits. My mum was a hairdresser and CONSTANTLY checked my hair for nits and eggs. I never had any thank god but that woman has made me so paranoid.

I get that stupid psychological itchy head disorder and get myself all wound up when they are mentioned.

Now Dn as I said gets them all the time... And I suspect who from.... She was there last week and came over to mine and wanted a kiss and a cuddle. My blood ran cold. Gave her a quick peck and cuddle... Very quickly! And retreated to other sofa.

Turned out I was right as few days later MIL called to say she suspected nits and had got them herself! Mortified. Although not lived there for years went to my mums who checked and still nit free thank god.

Now we are on hol for a week and I offered to tie one of DN hair back as we were rushing.... Eggs.... EGGS!!!

Literally threw hairbrush to MIL and scarpered. I'm pg ATM so pretended. It was MS rather than let extended family know what a nit nutter I am lol

I feel really harsh but it's a recurring problem and their parents let them wash their own hair despite being tiny. They either don't get all the suds out or don't wash their hair at all. I've mentioned it a few times and when I have them I always check their hair has been washed and rinsed properly.

However now I still go cold when all they want is a kiss or a cuddle. It needs sorted out tbh and I think parents should do more. It's every week and frankly I cant bear te thought o it anymore. No more kisses and cuddles?

AIBu? WWYD?

When children are in nursery, reception or even year one and year two nits are nightmare. It does get better when children get older. The secret is the nitty gritty comb and to use it every three days. That way if your child does catch nits then it is not a major infestation.

I think you are over reacting. Nits are annoying, but they hardly kill. Modern nits are very hard to kill. They are resistant to many poisions and the only way to get them out is regular fine tooth combing.

YANBU, nits are vile. We wet-comb the DDs every week and when they go to school they ahve their hair tied back and sprayed with cheap hairspray. We have now been nit-free for almost 2 years despite repeated outbreaks. I would not have cuddles from a child with nits either!

One of these kids is 9. I know I'm over reacting but I can't seem to stop it. Maybe I need counselling lol. What on earth I'll do when my own kids come home with them I do not know.

Possibly faint

I have shaved off DS hair this summer and finally he is free of these fucking creatures; I have battled for nearly two years spent a fortune on potions, hours of combing, hoovering his bed, washing towels and so on.

I feel your pain. Dd started nursery in Feb and must of got them at least 4 times. She has long curly hair and I have long curly hair. Can you imagine?! Not to mention the sheets, pillow cases, brushes and combs that need washing and soaking. I got so creeped out I threw out all the hair ties and bought new ones. They make my skin crawl. yuk Anyway, a hairdresser friend told me they don't like hairspray so in the morning when I did her hair for school (2 plaits) i'd cover her whole head in hairspray, comb it threw and plait. It worked. Didn't have any lice for the rest of the school year.

Madame I'll have to keep my mother away from Their hair too then lol :)

I just find it hard with it being SO often now I even twitch when they may be nit free!

And breathe. Sod it. I'll give them. A massive hug in the morning

I'd second the regular combing. comb through twice a day or as often as the child will tolerate. We had a few outbreaks, but hate the idea of using chemicals - which often don't work. Short hair really helps here.

I still take a nit comb on holiday Wink, so any sight of them and I can start combing hair through and not allow them to fester and get round the family.

Yanbu, nits are grim. Dd has long curly hair, and I wash with vosene anti nit shampoo, sray with tea tree mane and tail conditioner (actually for the horse but it's a top louse deterrent) and her hair is plaited for school. I am religious about this, and it seems to work as she has only ever had them once, and that was before I started the tea tree stuff. Took me 3 weeks of daily combing with nit comb and conditioner but I exterminated the little buggers and we have been nit free ever since.
