AIBU?

To think air fresheners are for dirty people who don't open windows enough?

They are so hideous, and actually make my eyes smart, as I discovered when house hunting.

The only time (apart from obvious causes that were easy to remedy, like an un-emptied nappy bin, or cooking smells) that I've noticed a gross smell in my house was when the spare room wasn't getting hoovered regularly enough, so we just stepped up the cleaning.

All the adverts for them, please can't people just air their homes more??

I don't understand them either - they don't smell fresh, they smell rank!

Just take the bins out and open your windows.

I have no idea why people are happy to breath in all that chemical shit all day every day.

When I lived with MIL i used to turn them off, she would turn them off, i'd turn them off again. We never mention it to each other in 18 months.. passive agressive!

Vile things YANBU.

They are useful in the loo........if there's any danger that someone may come straight in after you've just done a poo

Depends whether or not you think toxic chemicals are a nice smell.

Open windows is great on lovely sunny days. When it's pissing down today it's not really an option for most!

Not a fan either.
Although we do have a spray thing in the (windowless) bathroom as Man Poo stinks!!

My MIL has them, I got squirted in the eye once :-(

I like to clean with zoflora, it makes everything smell lovely and I keep the front door open when i can (hidden side entrance)

Thing is they don't get rid of bad smells - you just end up with bad smell plus sweet, chemically smell over the top.

It really can"t be good for little children to breathe them in ALL day (but they can cover a multitude of dirty little secrets at short notice! Grin )

YANBU! My mate has them and it STNKS! It's chemically smelling not "nice" as one poster here claims.

One doesn't neeed fresheners if one has clean upholtery, loos, clothing and curtains. I like scented candles if they're good ones....or fresh flowers....and you can't beat the smell of fresh laundry!

Who wants some stinky air freshner smell? Not me!

I don't see the point of them, and hate artificial scents generally. Being stuck in a room wtih air freshener would give me a headache. So yes I'd rather just open a window.

YANBU to dislike them, YABU to say they're for dirty people - they are for freaks people who are gullible like artificial smells.

I can't stand the things - they give me a headache and I'd not have them in the house. Even in the loo. Quite frankly I prefer the smell of a turd - even someone else's.

As for man poo...scented candles work faster and actually get rid of the stink whereas freshner just masks it. Beleve me...Man Poo combined wth lavender is AWFUL!

The use of air fresheners and other household chemicals (furniture polish et al) were linked with higher risk of developing childhood asthma in a study a few years back. I hate the smell of any of these things, and new car smell etc.

I think if you use them you get used to it... like smokers...

You can open windows on rainy days, as long as the prevailing wind cooperates.

Apparently burning a match is best for man poo.Never tried - always reach for the air freshener!

Report
Ktay · 11/08/2011 14:30

Lighting a match also neutralises man poo aromas
