To be all tearful because...

I was at my sisters house earlier for lunch and was talking to her in the kitchen while she cooked. I was talking to her about the financial difficulties DP and I are having. I am very stressed about it and admit I had a little bit of a cry (needed a hug from my big sis).

Unbeknownst to me my 9 year old DNephew was listening from the other room, not playing on his DS like we thought.

When I went in there he said he wanted a 'talk' and told me he'd been saving his pocket money up and wanted me to have it.

I would never take his money, but his gesture had me welling up. Especially because his savings are for a skateboard that he's wanted desperately for months. What a lovely little man he is...

My DP tells me I go 'mushy' over the boy and that it's silly because he isn't my child (although we are very close) but I think I have good reason to, he is a star.

YANBU, what a lovely thought he had. Even more so because he is saving it up for something he wants and would still put you first.

What a lovely thing for him to do. Can you make him a little card, thanking him for his kindness and telling him you'll never forget it.

That's lovely. Smile

We aren't having the best of times and my DCs are always offering their money when I go shopping, "just in case you need it Mum".

It always makes me well up, because I feel so bloody crap that they are aware of how shit our situation sometimes is.

My DCs are AMAZING ! Blush

another nephew story where the boot was on the other foot and which has restored my faith in humanity:
my DN was recently walking the West highland Way (he's 17) and it was his first time rough camping. His mates baled out, taking the lighter with them so he couldn't light his camping stove. Cold and wet, he had a cold cup a soup for lunch, and began asking people he met if he could buy a lighter from them. No Joy. He must have looked a bedraggled sight when he met an older couple and again asked if he could buy a lighter from them. The man looked at DN and asked "are you an honest man?". DN was a bit surprised but remembered his manners and said "yes, Sir, I am". The man then passed him a set of car keys and said "my car is parked a mile or two down the track. sit in it to get warm and then take the lighter from the glove compartment. leave the keys in the inside door". DN did exactly that and left a thank you note on a scrap of paper.
What a heart-warming gesture by this trusting couple.
