Just kidding.

My mother wants our new child (3w4d) to watch Baby Einstein several times a day, as that way she will 'be more familiar with it by the time she learns language'. She has suggested 4 to 6 times a day as appropriate. She has also said that if the baby falls asleep during Baby Einstein we should either 'wake it up' or 'wind the tape back and start it again when she wakes up'.

My wife agrees with this completely, except that she feels that at least twice a day it should be Baby Mozart instead of Baby Einstein, since 'a lot of people in my family are musical' and 'you are going to stimulate the wrong part of her brain with your male expectations'.

My mother has said that we won't be invited to a family weekend in a rambling old refectory later this summer if we aren't prepared to respect her views on the baby's education. On the other hand my wife has said that this is a 'deal-breaker' for her and that her friend who is a lawyer has said that she could 'get everything' if she chose to take this to a divorce court. Her friend is a criminal lawyer specialising in trichology cases rather than a family lawyer.

Who is being unreasonable?

All of you are mad and unreasonable.

LadyThumb Wed 10-Aug-11 10:53:25

Oh, I should say so Old Bean. Agree absolutely.

bagelmonkey I just mentioned riots in the thread title because I thought it would get more people clicking on it.

YABU ...they should have played the baby Einstein to your baby while it was still in the womb

Its too late now

HoneyPablo Wed 10-Aug-11 10:56:45

YABU for not playing your baby both Baby Mozart and Baby Einstein while still in the womb. You have narrowed your baby's life choices and you will be lucky if she doesn't turn out to be scum when she is older.
I hope your wife divorces you.

I believe.

Lady1nTheRadiator Wed 10-Aug-11 10:58:23

What carben said.

moreyear Wed 10-Aug-11 10:58:41

It depends - what is the condition of your baby's scalp? Does she in fact have hair?

InTheNightKitchen Wed 10-Aug-11 11:03:10

That's what I thought Chaos! But it is definitely a refectory according to DM - apparently it's a sort of self-service cafeteria? But old and rambling nonetheless. hmm

The baby had hair until a recent perm gone wrong moreyear. However I can't comment on that because it would compromise the independent police inquiry.

<scuttles off to Pedant's Corner to snigger at 'rambling old refectory'>

AMumInScotland Wed 10-Aug-11 11:05:14

You mean you, your wife and the grandparents aren't able to rustle up a string quartet between you? If you really cared about your child's development you would already have a schedule of live musical performances arranged, rather than resorting to playing CDs to her!

And you ought to arrange poetry recitals and educational talks from leading scientists.

You really are neglecting this poor child, no wonder your wife is talking to her lawyers.

QueenOfFeckingEverything Wed 10-Aug-11 11:07:23

Its parents like you who are resonsible for the total lack of respect amongst the youth of today.

InTheNightKitchen Wed 10-Aug-11 11:07:26

Shouldn't that be Pedants' Corner Manatee? What with there being more than one pedant and all? wink

HoneyPablo Wed 10-Aug-11 11:09:36

Is there more than one pedant on MN? Can't say I've noticed.

I resent the accusation Queen, especially after me and my wife queued up for an hour and a half outside dixon''s in Clapham Junction the other night - just so that we could get a proper flatscreen and Blu-ray player for her to watch Baby Einstein in high definition.

perming baby hair is just wrong
putting sun in in it is totally legal

Baby Einstein's is a cult to programme our children to all worship John Barrowman in later years.

Agree with everyone and start drinking sherry from a sippy cup

InTheNightKitchen Wed 10-Aug-11 12:03:35

I am shocked and saddened by your bullying attitude and the way you equate my cultural choices to child abuse Perry.

Didn't realise that Mumsnet was a place where a group of inadequates were allowed to torment people who work hard and try and bring their children up with nice hair.

I will not be reading this thread anymore. Thank you for your replies those people who agreed with me. The rest of you I hope that one day you get injured and the ambulance driver is someone you were bitchy to on AIBU. You won't be laughing so hard then.

LineRunner Wed 10-Aug-11 12:44:56

What what? No security light at this refectory?

Tee2072 Wed 10-Aug-11 12:47:33

It must be bad if Chaos is correctly your spelling.

OhdearNigel Wed 10-Aug-11 13:06:03

Quick ! Lock yourself away with the fruitshoots and divorce her ! Divorce them all !

MoominsAreScary Wed 10-Aug-11 13:34:54

Good god , my children don't stand a chance! No perms or baby Einstein listening !
