Facebook is evil yadda yadda...

but these stupid status updates really make my teeth itch..

"If you live in areas affected by riots could you look out for your elderly and disabled neighbours? They may be to scared to go to shops for food etc, and are possibly scared in their homes. Just pop in and see if they are ok or need anything. Please re-post to your friends and places where you think it will be seen by lots of people. Thanks."

and

"Dear God, please keep and the people of safe from the spate of meaningless riots currently sweeping the country. Lets, hope that they take pride in themselves and their country and set an example to others.........REPOST TO OTHER PEOPLE!!! aint ther enough crap going on in this world u wanna fight go fight 4 your country ???"

YANBU. Most chain Facebook statuses are a) idiotic, and b) poorly spelt. Ignore them!!

Fair point, the copy and paste statuses about sending rioters to Afghanistan and similar do annoy me as they are clearly unrealistic but I actually think it's quite admirable to remind people to check in on elderly and disabled neighbors. The coverage of the riots has really upset my grandma and we live no where near them, I can only imagine how terrified some elderly and disabled residents (perhaps housebound and therefore unable to evacuate quickly if needed) must feel. So, for that reason YABU.

Yes, admittedly the first of the two is much more sensible than the second.

I just think do we really want the people who are rioting to join the army?

I think the first one can't be a bad idea to remind people to do tbh

There was one that made me laugh though.

" Enter your postcode to see how far you are from trouble tonight"

The first one could be described as useful.

Has no one else had the "bragging" FB posts?

Have seen several status posts along the lines of:

"SO scared to be in my home tonight. SO close to [insert posh shop they live vaguely in the vicinity of]. It's bound to make us a target"

and

"So glad we moved to [insert name of vair naice area]. All quiet here. Stay safe everyone who live in a less nice area and so deserves what they get "

Its naff isn't it. Not just copy and pasted ones but ones along the lines of " how can I explain to dc that we can't stay with granpa because of riots when they are not even close to an area with problems but happen to be somewhere in a city"

I'm finding it increasingly hard to not respond. I did slip once and reply to 'Bring the troops back and order them to shoot looters on sight. Anyone got a better idea?' with 'Trial by judge and jury followed by sentencing according to the law as agreed through our democratic processes?'. Sorry, it won't happen again.

I usually hate the cut and post statuses but have done them today about the riots. or started some statuses about them. i think the first one you used as an example is a good point though and I'm afraid i am going to copy and paste it Grin

I don't mind the one about the elderly, although none of my friends have posted it. I did respond to a demand that I c+p a "Dear Rioters....blah blah.....should be ashamed....heroes in Afghanistan...blah blah" by pointing out that I'm not friends with any rioters so it'd be a waste of time.

I am shocked at how people I know and like are responding to these riots. Saw a "there are no innocent bystanders, shoot em all" yesterday Sad

I was nearly going to start a Aibu myself about this. These status do annoy me a bit but found it easy to ignore them but then racists post starting coming up from people I thought were decent people and a load of crap about if we still smacked our children the country wouldn't be in this mess, wtf!!! But hey made me realize a few things about some of my so called friends.

Btw I too kinda like the first one Smile.
