Are you scared of what might happen tonight? How can it be controlled? I am more than a bit scared of what will come from all of this.

I'm a bit worried for the next couple of hours. Am at work in Lambeth and there are non stop sirens flying around and have been for the past half hour. I have to drive home through the trouble spots and my boss won't let me out early.

yes I am OP, we have already had an email from the nursery both our DDs go to telling parents to pick them up as soon as possible and our high street has been closed. OH has gone to get the girls and is taking them to relatives tonight outside london.

A bit. I assumed I was far enough away from the centre for it not to be a problem but I've just been reminded there's a football match tonight and my house is within spitting distance from the pitch, my road will be chock full of cars. I do feel relatively safe in my house, though ther eis a flat roof outside dds room that I've never been happy about, but will still be asking dp to stay over tonight. I'm more scared of the reports of break ins. I read somewhere (probably here in fact) that the best weapon is an iron. Have it plugged in warming up and then bingo, you've got yourself an excellent self defence tool Grin

Gwendoline, can you not insist? That doesn't seem fair. I have heard sirens all day too. I hope you get home without any hassle! xx

I live in Leicester, there are plans for it to happen here on friday, although the police seem to be on top of it. I'm not close to the town centre, but I am worried about the damage they would do on the way home. We live in a council estate and have a lot of 'youths' hanging around.

Stretch I am worried about Leicester too. My dd is staying with her dad there, due to come home on Saturday. I might see if he can bring her back early :(

Gwendoline-that terrible, you would think that the aim would be to clear the streets as early as possible, even the police are asking for that.

I think that now the eyes of the world is on London, the police have to get it right, so extra 'troops' are being brought in. I don't think that the management has been very good and has underestimated how far things would go. But because that is being questioned, they will be doing all that they can, now.

The police further north are prepared.

I am a bit worried - am in Croydon - hopefully the extra police will help and at some point these kids will get bored and stop. What can we do though? I would like to go out en masse and deal with them as a community but it won't happen.

TakeMeDrunkImHome · 09/08/2011 15:38

Gwendoline - that is shocking. I would insist, absolutely INSIST, that I was leaving early. Why should you have to put your safety at risk? Sounds like you have a very selfish idiot of a boss.

Dh works for the police in Leicester (not a police officer though) he has said that they are not expecting anything significant. Although all the riot vans are ready to go and police leave has been cancelled.

Hi Choufleur.

I have been following the Leicester police twitter and they are quite calm about it. I am pretty sure there are a few thugs going, but they will be easily dealt with.

I would hope that anyone watching the news and seeing the destruction caused would think twice before starting up. Although the pictures of people getting 'free stuff' Angry are probably more appetizing Angry

I'm slightly worried for myself. I'm way, way away from the trouble up in the NE but there are enough eejits in our town to create riots if they want to copy and if they do our house is literally a stones throw away from where it is likely to start.

I'm more worried for my friend's in London and family in Leeds.

I hope every stays safe tonight and the Police are given the things they need to have more control.
