A friend just text me and said she thought going to London (Natural History Museum) tomorrow isn't a good idea because of the unrest in Tottenham and Enfield.
Is she being over sensitive?? (hope so as I'm reeeeeally looking forward to it!)

Are you watching sky news???? I wouldn't go

pigletmania Mon 08-Aug-11 21:23:46

I would'nt go either

amothersplaceisinthewrong Mon 08-Aug-11 21:23:57

I would normally say, yes, she is being oversensitive, but the situation is so volatile that I think I would leave it a few days. My son, is staying with us tonight, rather than going back to London

GypsyMoth Mon 08-Aug-11 21:24:13

jrsus!! you dont go obviously!!

CarrieOakey Mon 08-Aug-11 21:24:37

I wouldn't go either.

FlamingoBingo Mon 08-Aug-11 21:24:42

YANBU. DOn't go! Would be stupid.

LineRunner Mon 08-Aug-11 21:25:12

Depends on likely transport disruption.

Rollergirl1 Mon 08-Aug-11 21:26:05

I think if you didn't have to make a trip into London I wouldn't. Especially not with DC's. Natural History Museum isn't going anywhere...

Callisto Mon 08-Aug-11 21:26:10

The trouble isn't anywhere near the NH museum, but I would also worry and may well cancel. I guess it depends how you're getting there - I normally park up and tube it into the centre. If the tube line ran through any of the trouble spots I would probably cancel. But I am a wimp.

LoveInAColdClimate Mon 08-Aug-11 21:26:19

Don't go! It looks horrendous on the news.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Mon 08-Aug-11 21:26:24

I wouldn't go.

It's not worth it for something non-essential.

There's no way of knowing how this is going to go - or how it's going to spread.

SarahStratton Mon 08-Aug-11 21:26:52

I wouldn't go.

cookcleanerchaufferetc Mon 08-Aug-11 21:27:13

Heard that some of the transport system is going to close.

edwinbear Mon 08-Aug-11 21:28:11

Personally, and I am very much in the camp of not letting things like this disrupt my plans, I wouldn't. I'm in Greenwich, so not far from Lewisham where it's spread out to, and I'm quite concerned about it. There are also a lot of travel disruptions so it may not be easy to get to either.

GwendolineMaryLacey Mon 08-Aug-11 21:28:14

Bugger us poor sods that actually live and work there.

OhYouBadBadKitten Mon 08-Aug-11 21:28:20

I think we will cancel our london trip sad I think it is spreading so quickly and as it is hitting places like Oxford circus and now Clapham junction its really hard to predict. I am someone who would brazen it out usually and not easily scared off.

greatwhiteshark Mon 08-Aug-11 21:30:31

It's got bugger all to do with not being near the NHM. It wasn't near Birmingham, but it's started there. The situation is too unpredictable to risk.

OhYouBadBadKitten Mon 08-Aug-11 21:31:26

Gwendoline sad I feel like our probable decision is abandoning people like you and I am very sorry. I think if the police have to keep tourists safe though makes it harder for those of you who live there to be kept safe. If it wasnt for dd I would stick my defiant chin out and go no matter what, but I feel I need to be responsible.

worraliberty Mon 08-Aug-11 21:31:27

It's not worth coming here

Believe me, I'm the calmest non drama like person in the world but even I'm starting to feel a little unnerved now.

It's kicking off in just about every Town Centre. If it's not on the news, it's being posted on Facebook.

Anyway, lots of travel is being disrupted so I'd stay well clear sad

Sirzy Mon 08-Aug-11 21:33:33

I feel really sorry for everyone who has to be in London tonight, I certainly dont think anyone should go in if they dont have to.

OhYouBadBadKitten Mon 08-Aug-11 21:35:40

oh hell.

very un-mn {{{{hug}}}} to those near trouble.

TheGhostNotMe Mon 08-Aug-11 21:35:46

I wouldnt go. Its spreading outwards and is so unpredictable. I wouldnt go if I didnt have to (for work etc) and definitely wouldnt take the children.

aquashiv Mon 08-Aug-11 21:36:09

Blimey can hardly believe how this has esculated so quickly.
I have lived in London for many years and find it totally shocking and sad what I am seeing.
My first thought was go but really, as worral says stay well clear.

LolaRennt Mon 08-Aug-11 21:37:01

I would expect things to spontantiously kick off at least in small scale with people in the underground. SO I wouldnt go. Woudlnt want to get stuck in a car on the road either
