feeling uneasy about Jason Owen re Baby P being released?

I know he didn't hurt the baby but he didn't stop those animals hurting him anyway. I know he can't be kept inside indefinately and at some point will be released but I still feel uncomfortable about this.

One of the trio jailed over tragic north London child Baby P's death could walk free from prison this week.
Jason Owen, 39, is serving a six-year sentence for causing or allowing the death of 17-month-old Peter Connelly exactly four years ago.

He is expected to be eligible for release at the end of this week, halfway through his jail term, taking into account the 289 days he spent in custody on remand before he was sentenced.

Everything about this case makes me feel uneasy, and even though I try to supress it, very, very angry.

But most of all just sad for what that little lad had to endure.

I just wish the sentencing laws in this country were a bit more realistic in the type of crime committed.

However,looking at this original sentence,it makes me see that maybe the 15 month sentence handed to the monster that sexually abuse dd1 from ages 5 to 9 was actually a bit of a result

It looks like he'll be having plastic surgery too to prevent people from attacking him.

Yep, let him out, but no way should he get any anonymity... because he will certainly get hell for the rest of his life wherever he goes if he is recognisable, and deservedly so.

The sentences for sexual offences regarding children in this country are just disgraceful. I can't imagine what the government and judges are thinking of.

I have posted many times about the little boy we found murdered, it was a case of soft sentencing and leniency which let the murderer free to do it. Low level crimes building up to the highest. That was sexual Crime tho, I don't know what the stats are for what this man did to baby p. He clearly dislikes children and should be prevented from having contact with any.

Agree with you Imperial, if the sentences handed out are supposed to be on a relative scale to other crimes, then a few years of minimised liberty for standing by while a child was tortured over an extended period is shameful.

News says that he was released yesterday. He has at least four of his own children doesn't he? What a mess.

Apparantly MP's are going to have a vote about Capital Punishment soon...I only heard rumours so don't know the full details. Paedophiles should be on top of the list for the death penalty.

Given that the death penalty will not be reintroduced, it follows that any sentence is only as meaningful as the rehabilitation that goes with it. Yes, sentences are and should be punitive, but if their purpose is also to protect society then that means doing something to or for the offender while they are in jail that will decrease the likelihood of them re-offending.

The mantra '...and throw away the key' doesn't really help much.

He should be at the very least tagged

There's nothing to stop him taking his kids to school, living with them etc

They cannot restore capital punishment, its going to be a cover up for the impending recession.

We would have to come out of the EU, it would take years.

I doubt he's changed much. Not in our system.

Virtually all paedophiles and child abusers are released at some point. But I doubt many of them are changed for the better by their prison experience.

I wonder if he will be allowed to live with his children? Mind you if the mother allowed him back there is something badly wrong with her too.
