An establishment like 'Hooters' is pathetic and wrong?

I live in Nottingham which was famous once as the only British city to have a Hooters. So proud.Hmm

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 09:24

And now Nottingham is the gun crime capital of the UK... best we ban Hooters then...

Report
PuppyMonkey · 06/08/2011 09:27

Nottingham hasn't been gun crime capital for ages. Just saying.

I've never heard of them. Is it a burger bar or a strip joint? TBH, sounds like it could be either.

Report
bananasplitz · 06/08/2011 09:32

dont go there

simple

Deesus · 06/08/2011 09:34

I think it's kind of both sandstorm....

Report
squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 09:35

It isnt a strip joint.

'Pathetic and wrong' is your judgement. Others may think 'cheeky fun'. If no-one went through the doors it would close down so there must be enough people in the latter category to make it worthwhile...

SquidgyBiscuits · 06/08/2011 09:37

If you don't like it, then just don't go.

As it goes, plenty of people obviously do like the place. I don't see the point really as it is not a strip joint and as a bar it is pretty shit.

Its where young women (spray tanned orange) who wear orange foundation and very brief outfits consisting of orange shorts and low cut orange tops, serve food and drink.

I wont go, does that mean I cant object to a concept?
I dont buy the daily sodding mail either, does that mean I have no right to object to their utter drivel and bile?

I fail to see how you can object to somewhere you have never been, or something you havent read.

I do however find your username quite ironic Grin.

It always amazes me as well tbh, how many women seem to have no qualms about other women being objectified and sexualised for the menfolks gratification all the time and have such apathy about it. It worries me such people may be raising the next generation of women.

Wrong again Squeaky, its after the Mambo no 5 parody Bimbo no 5 about Bill Clinton. So fail there, again.

Bimbo, the women who work at Hooters are not trafficked there, and forced to work against their will. They CHOOSE to work there. I have no apathy, I believe in people being able to do what they want to do, without prudish disapproval from others who look down their noses at them.

Why is it prudish to believe sexism is a bad thing Squeaky please tell me that? I would feel exactly the same if a chain only employed fake tanned beefcakes for women (or men!) to ogle at and take part in pathetic paegents believe it or believe it not!

OP posts:

I dont see it as sexism. I have been in hooters plenty of times. Its a gimmick. It makes money. The women who choose to work there make good money too.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 06/08/2011 09:53

YANBU to think the concept is wrong. But I think extrapolating that to make out that other people are bad mothers ("such people may be raising the next generation") because we don't necessarily agree with you is going too far. Places like Hooters are not solely populated by 'menfolks' and the women who choose to work there are not hookers or there by force. There are plenty of other times when you can see attractive young women wearing skimpy outfits completely voluntarily.... we're a free and liberal society after all. Hooters is not everyone's cup of tea but it would be wrong to elevate its particular brand of seaside postcard smut to being something that damages society
