Ill try to keep this short without missing bits out!
I am 9 weeks with my fifth child. I was approached a a surestart event by a midwife who represents a private company working within the nhs. It is some sort of scheme whereby women can transfer care to this group and then have the same midwife throughout the pregnancy who will then come and deliver the baby either at home or at one hospital who works with them.
I was interested to hear what it was about so gave them my phone number to call me.
The next day she called me and asked a few questions about my history etc which is rounded up as follows
dc1 - high blood pressure mulitple hospital admissions but NO pre eclampsia delivered at 40+6 labour started naturally.
dc2 - severe preclampsia labour induced at 35 +0 weeks
dc3 - sever preeclampsia labour induced at 36+0 weeks
dc4 - high blood pressure no preeclampsia labour started naturally at 39+3, but I was on medication for abot 9 months after her birth.Had to see a cardiologist as my heart went crazy during the birth - no probelms found, should add have family history of heart problems.
The 2nd and 4th babies I was actually on my way for c section when they shot out - dc2 I was actually in the room taking the little whatever they are tablets and dc4 the epidural man (? - dont know the name of this job sorry!) was explaining to me I might not have time for one as my baby was distressed, poor epidural man was distressed himself when my baby suddenly appeared next to him on the bed but thats a whole other story anyway.
dc5 btw unplanned, not planned due to the above.
She realised that she doesnt work with our local hospital so then tried to persuade me that i am an ideal candidate for home birth (I am clearly not) when I said that surely I would need consultant care she implied that i could and perhaps should refuse or that she would come with me to prevent them pushing me into something i didnt want .
Then the worst part she said that if I didnt want to actually give birth in the hospital I could call her and then we could claim it was too late to go to hospital to have the baby - and she would deliver it at my house?! So an unplanned home birth.
To me this seems highly irresponsible I have nothing against home birth in the right circumstances but to me these circumstances are not it and to suggest that i could just ignore all of the above and perhaps risk mine and my babys life is ridiculous.
I am worried that she has actually persuaded another high risk woman that this is a good idea?!
I have a scan in a couple of weeks and i was thinking of mentioning it at the hosptial i go to (they wont work with this firm anyway) but am i just being over sensitive and should i forget about it?
