AIBU?

Was I unreasonable or was she? I seriously don't think I was!

OK, I'll just state exactly what happened and you can let me know.
Monday morning and my son is starting a football summer scheme for one week, he is three and was very excited. Anyway we went up to the school where it was being taken and the guy in charge gave me a form to fill out.
I looked around and I saw a bench, around the bench on the ground there was easily thirty to forty sports bags, lunch boxes and coats, fleeces etc, you know what kids are like! Anyway I wandered over and there was a few bags on the bench, one has a rain coat sitting on top of a bag.
I really didn't think twice, I just lifted the bag and set in on the ground, rolled up the raincoat and set this on top of the bag, sat down and started to fill out the form.
Just as I had done that a fussy mother came over with her daughter and said to her daughter in a loud voice, "I didn't want your stuff on the ground", and started to flick imaginary dirt off her daughters raincoat. she then produced two pairs of trainers and socks and started to give her daughter elaborate
instructions as to which socks should be worn with which trainers.
Please note the class was for two hours and her daughter already has yet another pair of trainers on her feet! That's three pairs of trainers for a two hour class!
The trainers thing is really a side issue but am just setting the scene.
Anyway I didn't say or do anything but everyday this week this woman has glared and stared at me at leave off and pick up time and it's sort of taken away from the jolliness of the week.
Was I totally unreasonable to move the bag and raincoat?

Please note it was a lovely sunny day and the ground was not wet at all!

Over to you Smile

YABU, unless there was genuinely nowhere else to sit, or to put her stuff. I would have been annoyed, in her situation, at a stranger touching my stuff and putting it on the ground.

That's what i was thinking!

Was there somewhere to sit that didn't require the stuff to be moved? It is slightly invasive to move other people's stuff if it's not really in the way.

That's what i was thinking! - about it being a bit young, I mean

I wouldn't expect someone to touch my things nor put them on the ground just as much as I wouldn't do that to someone else's things. YABU.

I would be a bit irritated if a stranger started moving my stuff about, not so much where it was put, but that they felt the need to move it in the first place

I wouldn´t put someone else´s stuff on the ground-I either budge everything up or put something on top of another thing.

seriously there wasn't anywhere else to sit, I would have sat elsewhere if there had been.
It was her daughters trainers in a canvas draw string bag and her daughters raincoat, not her handbag I wouldn't have moved that.

Anyway it's something I have been wondering about all week, thanks for your opinion Smile

Could you tell us more about the trainer/socks combinations and rationale please?

btw she sounds worth befriending for the benefit of MN.

Moving a sports bag onto the ground is not unreasonable in my book.

Maybe you shouldn't have moved her stuff but her reaction is way OTT. I envy her if this is all she has to worry about. She needs to lay off the glares and evil looks.

YABU - the girls at ballet do this, stuff over all the seats. Me and another mum hooch it off so we can sit down.

"FIne socks"

I wouldn't put someone's stuff on the ground. But if someone did it to me, I wouldn't passive-aggressively talk to my child about it and gve them evils for a week...

You were possibly a teeny bit unreasonable, she's a cock.

If there as nowhere else to sit then it's grand.
It's like twats who leave their towels on benches in the gym and expect nobody to move them or use that bench because their towel is there, what did she expect you to do?stand because er daughters sports bag was using the seat?

I can understand that some people would be a bit miffed if they had put stuff down somewhere deliberately and someone else moved it. But hey, it's not like your dog peed on it is it Blush

I would have moved them too. YANBU.

I would of thought the bench was for sitting on not for storing clothes, it's football so you have to expect mud and dirt

CupcakesandTwunting · 28/07/2011 14:20

YANBU

If I took a seat up with my bags, I wouldn't be offended if they got moved so that the seat could be used as an, erm, seat.

A bench is for human backsides not possessions. Arses take precedence! Grin

I would get huffy with someone moving my stuff. Particularly to put it on muddy ground. Could you not have just shuffled it along a bit on the bench?

Report
manicbmc · 28/07/2011 14:27

Yay for arses! Grin

She was an idiot and over reacted. If her daughter's stuff was so precious maybe she should have been following her, carrying it all.

She sounds like a prententious idiot!
