AIBU?

..to think girls can wee in the woods?

I took my little ones to a large organised picnic-day in the woods. There was a 15 minute walk through the woods to get to the spot where the picnic was held.

I was sitting down with my boys and nearby I saw two women sitting with three children, two boys and a girl. All roughly about 8. This was two hours into the picnic and the boys needed a wee so they ran into the woods, the girl also needed a wee so started running after. One of the women, I'm guessing her mum, told her to come back because she couldn't have a wee.

The girl asked why and the mum said 'because'. This was repeated a few times and then the mum said, very firmly, 'Look, you're a girl and girls don't wee in the woods. End of. If you really need a wee we can pack up and go home.'

I was quite shocked that the mum would not let the little girl just go for a wee in the woods! She had the choice to end the day, walk back for 15 minutes, go home and have a wee or just put up with having a full bladder!

Was IBU for thinking this mum was BU or would you not let our girls wee in the woods either?

Yanbu - how do people think we coped before the human race had houses???

How daft!

Blimey how daft! Either none of the kids wee in the woods, (if you're fussy about that kind of thing), or let the boys and girl have a blimin wee. Presumably being a wood there were plenty of trees to hide behind!

The mum was balmy. How does she think female members of the militarty do it. So she would rather ruin a picnic for the sake of a little wee, what a silly sexist woman.

That's what I thought, we spent lots of time in the woods when I was little and I always got to wee when needed.

I agree it's slightly more tricky for girls, but my DD has wee'd in the woods lots of times and I am seriously considering getting us a pair of she pees.

Never mind an 8 yr old girl, I'm 47 and I wee in the woods if I need to.

Frightens the badgers something awful, though. Wink

Don't know about little girls, but certainly middle aged/elderly women can!

When on coach trips as a girl the coaches always stopped for a "wee" break on the way back - men on one side of the road, women on the other and age was no barGrin.

That's cruel, to say she can't wee, and if she does need a wee they have to go home. The the mum must be a loon.

There is a knack to helping girls wee outdoors but it can be done! (And has been in this family lots of times.) I struggle more with stopping the last few drips from DS going on his trousers...

Mine wee in the woods near us and on the odd occasion so have I. What an anal woman!

The mother obviously has toilet hang ups. I presume she doesn't do any walks that last more than a couple of hours and rarely ventures out of town.

I would happily wee in the woods if there was enough undergrowth for cover, that girl's mum sounds absolutely bonkers.

As a rambler (female), I sometimes need to wee in woods. Had the old trolleys round the ankles one particular afternoon, quite happy that I was well out of sight. Just got to the point of no return when four people on horseback came trotting by. All I could do was a Blush and a sheepish grin.

Silly woman.

a girl is more likely to get it over her legs, clothes, shoes than a boy who can spray it away from himself, (sorry if this is too detailed), so might be things like this in the past which prevented the mum letting her do it again.

It is silly though, a dc out anywhere for the day may occasionally need to go to the toilet and if there is no toilet around, the dc will need to go in the bushes or whatever is about. I agree with you it was not alright
