from Boots (the only chemist in town), because some people use it to induce labour and make themselves ill.

what do you want it for?

I bought some a while back and no-one even asked.

Are you pregnant op ?

Amazon.co.uk is your friend.

PG?!!!! I'm waaaay past the menopause!Grin

I want it for the oil cleansing method thing for dd. Pretty innocuous, huh?

Where did you buy it from stupefy? I suspect amazon will indeed be my friend, on this occasion.

I couldn't get any either, I've ordered mine on line, Amazon do it really cheap.

I got annoyed about this recently too. And we have quite a few different chemists here. I got some from aromantics.com

And afaik you can get on on prescription from Boots Hmm

I got some from the pharmacy in Tesco.

When I asked in Sainsbos the woman looked at me as though I'd asked her to open her veins for me. This is more to do with the woman than the product though.

I think I asked in another chemist and was also disappointed there. Tricky stuff to get hold of.

I get mine from here: www.pukkaherbs.com/castor-oil-2.html

i got mine from an independant chemist

(and it was to induce dcBlush)

but in my defense i was just back from snotty consultant who told me on my due date he would see me in a fortnight (i don't think so buster!)

my mh would have been questionable

I thought you were going to say that it was because its something to do (deliberately vague, can't remember what exactly!) with making ricin and they don't want any terrorists getting hold of it. Or maybe it's just the castor beans that they make the oil from that you need.

I don't know - just one of those little nuggets of info that seeing this post has (very badly) dredged out of my brain. And not like I've ever needed to think about making ricin before :)

oh yes, zipzap, I have some vague recollection of something to do with that too, now you come to mention it.

I've got it online. No one has checked whether I was pg or a terrorist. Makes the whole thing of not being able to get it in the chemist a bit silly, really, doesn't it?

(clappyhands, did it work? Did you get terribly dehydrated and therefore ill? Were they truly awful cramps? Or was it a bit like, er, giving birth?Grin)

jsut one of those things I thought had gone .. gone out of fashion .. just gone. Didn't know the terrorist thing.

Mind you I also don't know what the oil cleansing thing for dc is either. Don't know much!

I find most things I can order online Jux

I couldn't buy because apparantley drug addicts use it (can't remember what for.) I ended up buying from Amazon too.

Why not use almond oil for cleansing? Castor oil smells awful!

Report
bananamonkey · 28/07/2011 10:55

Seeker oil cleansing uses a small % (% depends on your skin type) of castor oil mixed into a base oil like almond or olive oil.

Just last week I ordered a bottle from Boots. They didn't have any in so I had to ask if they could get it for me. Certain amount of umming and ahhing before they decided that they could.

It came the next day - £9.45 for 500ml.

When I went in to collect the pharmacist did give me the once over (presumably to check I wasn't pregnant).

I had the same as WhatNo except they had it in stock. I have enough for a LOT of oil cleansing now.

Incidentally, it is very very useful for removing mascara from a small child's face when he painted himself stripey "to be just like mummy". I am not stripy.

stubbornstains · 28/07/2011 13:50

I did use it to try and induce labour (had to go to 2 or 3 chemists to find it.)

It didn't work. But neither did it make me ill. Just gave me a good, ahem, "clean out".

harassedandherbug · 28/07/2011 13:59

Glad I read the tip about ordering it with your online food shop. I'm just about to run out, and pregnant.

Report
Jux · 28/07/2011 21:12

Ah, stubborn stains, you obviously were not irresponsible enough! Next time, drink the whole bottle and watch yourself cramp, dehydrate and just imagine the d&v.......

I can't imagine what drug addicts would use it for; but then, it wouldn't have occurred to me that it would have been useful to terrorists either. Too naive, me. Must improve my street cred.

They'd refuse to sell it to a pregnant mum?

Bloody outrageous. Like they'd stop them buying fags, gin, Brie and Parma Ham.

Ooooh, that's made me cross. [angy]
