Or has it always been this way? Bores the pants off me tbh.

Bear in mind I'm awake at stupid-o-clock so may be overthinking? wink

I've had that feeling too. There have been some rather stagey conversations going on along the lines of:

"I really don't know how to get my washing really white! What do you all use?"

And then posters offer lots of detailed information.

Just a teeny example, but I am hmm.

Curiousmama Wed 27-Jul-11 06:43:57

Yes that's it exactly grin

Cheeky blighters!!

Tortoiseonthehalfshell Wed 27-Jul-11 06:48:48

I've reported about 5 vendors-posting-as-posters in the last week or so, and that's way, WAY more than usual.

I tend to pick them up because I post at odd hours of the night, and it's things like people bumping severanl-months-old threads to say "I too as a concerned mum have had trouble with my finances/buying baby clothes/ensuring that my LO has a balanced diet but then I found this miracle product, here, let me link it for yo" which, for some reason, they often do at 3 am.

Anyway. Don't know why the surge, have we been in the media again recently maybe?

Curiousmama Wed 27-Jul-11 07:41:28

Yes I noticed the 'links' hmm Also noticed one this morning that's obviously spam, linking to FB link.

BagofHolly Wed 27-Jul-11 07:44:51

I've noticed that too. And a disgraceful "questionnaire" on pregnancy and conception, supposedly asking about the perceived benefits of nutritional therapy and fertility, but posing questions like "are you aware that fertility drugs can cause tumours." It was deleted, thank goodness.

Curiousmama Wed 27-Jul-11 16:11:43

Yes keep bumping this so those who aren't so aware become aware confused Or summat like that wink

Chat: I was opening a tin this morning 04:45 27/07/2011

I was opening a tin this morning with my tin opener and wondered if it was the best tin opener I could be using. So I googled and found this tin opener [link to expensive tin openers dot com]. I've never used one but see that it's won awards, is on offer atm and comes recommended by the National Tinopener Society!!!!!! Wow. What do other mummies think?!?!

by ASockPuppet 04:46 27/07/2011

Brilliant!!!! I take mine everywhere with me. In fact, they're so good and on offer atm that I bought 3. My hubs carries one in his briefcase. I've never looked back!!!!! I'm just a regular mummy and it literally saved my life.

Whatmeworry Wed 27-Jul-11 16:21:44

Also I increasingly think some of the AIBU and Relationships threads look like they are starting bunfights researching articles for Cosmo or somesuch

tinopenerdreams Wed 27-Jul-11 16:38:49

but its such a great opener! sad

faaaaghinatub Wed 27-Jul-11 16:45:32

ShowOfHands that had me literally laughing out loud, brilliant!

FWIW though, there is a quite a ferocious backlash against posters who aren't market researchers, and get accused of being one despite me being here for nearly 5 years now (wtih a tiny break inbetween). I posted something, ahem, embarassing last month and immediately got replies going "are you a journo" and "market research isn't allowed here" - it was a genuine question shock Can't win! smile

faaaaghinatub Wed 27-Jul-11 16:46:15

"accused of being one despite me" = "accused of being one e.g. me, despite me"

BecauseImWorthIt Wed 27-Jul-11 16:47:08

I think it's probably a bit like those who post something that sounds trollish - posts always start with "I remember Cod, Judge Lavender, Moldies", as a way of demonstrating site knowledge. If you're going to post something embarrassing (what was it?!) then maybe it has to prefaced with a bit of that too.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin Wed 27-Jul-11 16:47:41

I have yet to find myself thinking, 'I really wish I had a pocket sized tin opener handy.'
If I ever do, I will not be buying a tin opener, I will be locating the nearest cliff to jump off.
If you want clothes to stay white don't wear them.
The phrase 'as a concerned mum' would automatically render any suggestion that might follow worthless.

faaaaghinatub Wed 27-Jul-11 16:52:14

BecauseImWorthIt that's true and what i ended up doing. but it did make me go shock that my question had been thought of as a journalist question - hadn't realised it would be seen as such until I saw the first responses smile naive, me,never!

Please do report anything like this to us via the Report button and we will take a look. Most of the time their email addy is something like mrtinopener @ TinOpenerDreams.tin so we can tell fairly quickly whether or not they are here to spam us.

Thank you to everyone who does report spammy posts, have a wine

Have you checked it's not the underlings trying to supplement their meagre MN wages?
